"Girls on Top" is a song by English-Dutch girl group Girl Thing. It was released on 30 October 2000 in Australia and on 6 November 2000 in the United Kingdom as the second single from their Girl Thing (album), self-titled debut studio album (2001). Despite previous single "Last One Standing (Girl Thing song), Last One Standing" peaking at number eight on the UK Singles Chart, "Girls on Top" charted at number 25, resulting in the group being dropped by their record label and their album not being released in the UK. Girl Thing
Girl Thing were an English-Dutch girl group, consisting of members Jodi Albert, Anika Bostelaar, Linzi Martin, Michelle Barber and Nikki Stuart. They were formed in 1998 by Simon Cowell and were originally intended to rival the Spice Girls, but their success was minor and short-lived before disbanding in 2001. The group reformed in 2013 for the second series of ''The Big Reunion'' to perform a one-off gig at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2014. Career In 1998, Simon Cowell, having previously turned down the Spice Girls, decided to form his own girl group.
