Girls About Town (EP)
''Girls About Town'' is the debut EP by the American rock band The Smithereens. It was released on 31 October 1980 on the band's own D-Tone Records. The EP contains four songs with the word ‘girl‘ in the title, including " Girl Don't Tell Me," a song originally recorded by The Beach Boys. The 7" EP has never been available in any other format, though two of its tracks were included on Smithereens compilation albums: the title track on ''Attack of The Smithereens'' and ''From Jersey It Came! The Smithereens Anthology''; and " Girl Don't Tell Me" on '' Covers''. Background “We had a bunch of songs with ‘girl’ in the title, and "Girls About Town" was the song that everyone thought was our best live song. However, the women, who share a luxurious suite in an apartment building, have their African-American maid Hattie (Louise Beavers) disguise herself as their mother, waiting at the window, to avoid having to invite the men inside. Wanda is getting tired of how she makes a living, but she and Marie go aboard a yacht the next night to divert rich practical joker Benjamin Thomas (Eugene Pallette) and his handsome business associate Jim Baker (Joel McCrea). Jim knows that the women are paid "entertainment", but quickly finds himself falling for Wanda anyway, and vice versa. (When Jerry pays her for her efforts, Wanda tears up the check.) For Your Pleasure (TV Series)
''For Your Pleasure'' is an American variety television program that was broadcast on NBC from April 15, 1948, until September 10, 1949. First run Kyle MacDonnell starred in the 15-minute unsponsored program, which also featured the Norman Paris Trio, an instrumental combo. They were supplemented by dancing duos (Jack and Jill, April until June 1948, and Blaire and Deane, June until September 1948). The format had MacDonnell in a nightclub visiting with patrons and singing one or two songs. MacDonnell's starring role (her first on television) resulted from an NBC executive's seeing her perform on Broadway in the revue ''Make Mine Manhattan'', which opened in January 1948. Thus, on an evening in 1947, NBC's New York station went on the air early so that Royal could watch an audition of MacDonnell on TV from his home, after which the station resumed transmitt ...
