Girl Scouts Korea (걸스카우트) is the national Girl Scouting/Guiding organization of South Korea. It serves 78,365 members (). Founded in 1946, the coeducational organization became a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1957. Program and ideals The association is divided in sections according to age: * Twinkler Scout - ages 4 to 5 * Gaenari ( Brownie Girl Scout) - ages 6 to 8 * Jindalrae ( Junior Girl Scout) - ages 8 to 11 * Sonyeodae (Cadette Girl Scout) - ages 12 to 14 * Yeonjangdae (Senior Girl Scout) - ages 15 to 17 * Yeongudae (Young Leader (Girl Scout)) - ages 18 to 21 * Seongindae (Adult Troop) - ages 21 and older There are also Extension Troops for disabled and working girls. World Association Of Girl Guides And Girl Scouts
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS ) is a global association supporting the Girl Guides, female-oriented and female-only Guiding and Scouting organizations in 152 countries. It was established in 1928 in Parád, Hungary, and has its headquarters in London, United Kingdom. It is the counterpart of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). WAGGGS is organized into five regions and operates five international Guiding centers. It holds full member status in the European Youth Forum (YFJ), which operates within the Council of Europe and European Union areas and works closely with these bodies. Girl Guides
Girl Guides (known as Girl Scouts in the United States and some other countries) is a worldwide movement, originally and largely still designed for girls and women only. The movement began in 1909 when girls requested to join the then-grassroots Boy Scout Movement. The movement developed in diverse ways in a variety of places around the world. In some places, girls joined or attempted to join preexisting Scouting organizations. In other places, all girl groups were started independently; some would later open up to boys, while others merged with boys' organizations. In other cases, mixed-gender groups were formed, some of which sometimes later disbanded. Brownies (Girl Guides)
Brownies are the section in the Girl Guides (or in the United States, Girl Scouts) organization for girls aged seven years old to ten years old. Exact age limits are slightly different in each organization. History Brownies, originally called Rosebuds, were first organized by Lord Baden-Powell in 1914, to complete the range of age groups for girls in Scouting. They were first run as the youngest group in the Guide Association by Agnes Baden-Powell, Lord Baden-Powell's younger sister. In 1918 his wife, Lady Olave Baden-Powell, took over the responsibility for the Girl Guides and thus for Brownies. Originally the girls were called Rosebuds, but were renamed by Lord Baden-Powell after the girls had complained that they did not like their name. Their name comes from the story "The Brownies" by Juliana Horatia Ewing, written in 1870. Girl Guide And Girl Scout
A Girl Guide or Girl Scout is a member of a section of some Girl Guides, Guiding organisations who is between the ages of 10 and 14. Age limits are different in each organisation. The term Girl Scout is used in the United States and several East Asian countries. The two terms are used synonymously within this article. Girl Guides are organised into troop, units/troops averaging 15–30 girls under guidance of a team of Scout leader, leaders. Units subdivide into patrols of about six Guides and engage in outdoor and special interest activities. Units may affiliate with national and international organisations. Some units, especially in Europe, have been co-educational since the 1970s, allowing boys and girls to work together as Scouts. There are other programme sections for older and younger girls. Extension Scouting
Extension Scouting are programs in Scouting organizations which cater for young people with special needs. Background Extension Scouting was earlier called ''Scouts Malgré Tout'', which is French for "Scouts Despite Everything". It aims to meet the mandate from Robert Baden-Powell, founder and first Chief Scout of The Boy Scouts Association in the United Kingdom, that the programme be made "open to all." Young people with special needs join in with Scout groups on a regular basis but some organizations provide a special parallel program tailored to these participants. Guide Motto
The Scout Motto of the Scout movement is, in English, "Be Prepared", with most international branches of the group using a close translation of that phrase. These mottoes have been used by millions of Scouts around the world since 1907. Most of the member organizations of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) share the same mottoes. Korean ( South Korean: , ''hangugeo''; North Korean: , ''chosŏnmal'') is the native language for about 80 million people, mostly of Korean descent. It is the official and national language of both North Korea and South Korea (geographically Korea), but over the past years of political division, the two Koreas have developed some noticeable vocabulary differences. Beyond Korea, the language is recognised as a minority language in parts of China, namely Jilin Province, and specifically Yanbian Prefecture and Changbai County. It is also spoken by Sakhalin Koreans in parts of Sakhalin, the Russian island just north of Japan, and by the in parts of Central Asia. Korea Scout Association
The Korea Scout Association is the national Scouting association of South Korea. Scouting was founded in Korea in 1922 while under Japanese rule, and sent representatives to the first Far East Scouting competition in Beijing in 1924. However, it was banned by the occupation authorities from 1937 until August 15, 1945. It existed in all areas of the Korean peninsula prior to the Korean War in 1950. World Organization of the Scout Movement recognition came in 1953. The total membership in 2011 was 201,455 registered Scouts. The Scout movement in South Korea is served by the Girl Scouts Korea, member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and the Korea Scout Association, member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.
