Girl (The Time Song)
"Girl" was the final single released from the Time's debut album. Like most of the album, the song was recorded in Prince's home studio in April 1981, and was produced, arranged, composed and performed by Prince with Morris Day later adding his lead vocals. The single reached number 49 on the U.S. R&B singles chart. The tender ballad is built around the piano and synthesizers and features live drumming and bass. The emotional lyrics delivered by Day tell of a difficult breakup and that he is still in love with the song's subject. Prince's backing vocals are unmistakable, especially in the chorus. The U.S. 7" single was backed with an edit of album track, "The Stick", a funky number which was written by Revolution member Lisa Coleman (uncredited), who also provided background vocals. The Time (band)
The Time, also known as Morris Day and the Time and The Original 7ven, is an American musical group founded in Minneapolis in 1981. Their work has been a part of the formation of the Minneapolis sound, featuring a mix of soul music and dance music with funk, rock n roll, and more. Led by singer-songwriter Morris Day the band members are known for having been close Prince associates, and are arguably the most successful artists who have worked with Prince, achieving particular popularity with R&B fans with tracks such as " The Bird", " Cool", and " Jungle Love". Former members Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis went on to a prominent production career after they left the band in 1983, while Day and guitarist Jesse Johnson recorded solo material in addition to their work with the Time. The twelve-inch single (often written as 12-inch or 12″) is a type of vinyl ( polyvinyl chloride or PVC) gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a 'single' or a few related sound tracks on each surface, compared to LPs (long play) which have several songs on each side. "Pop Life" is a song by Prince and the Revolution. It was the second US (and final UK) single from their 1985 album, ''Around the World in a Day'', reaching number 7 in the US charts, becoming Prince's eighth top-ten hit in a two-year span. ''It's About Time'' is the fourth solo album to date by R&B singer Morris Day. Released 12 years after his previous album '' Guaranteed'', ''It's About Time'' is somewhat a return to form for Day. Doctor Fink
Matt Fink (born February 8, 1958), better known as Dr. Fink, is a keyboardist, producer, and songwriter best-known for playing keyboards in Prince's band, The Revolution. At Prince concerts, he was distinguished onstage for performing dressed in a surgical mask and scrubs. He has also worked with artists, songwriters and producers, including The Time, Lipps Inc., The Jets, Vanity 6, David Z., Bobby Z., P. Diddy, The Rembrandts, Phil Solem, PC Munoz, 7 Aurelius, Steve Nathan, Shock G, Kris Vanderheyden Bray, Criss Starr, and Marc Mozart. Fink has won three Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, and numerous RIAA gold and platinum awards for his work with Prince and The Revolution.
