Girdle Of Gold
''Girdle of Gold'' is a 1952 British comedy film directed by Montgomery Tully and starring Esmond Knight, Maudie Edwards and Meredith Edwards.Berry p.219 It was produced as a second feature for the lower half of a double bill. The film was shot at Walton Studios near London with location shooting taking place in the capital. The film's sets were designed by the art director Don Russell. Synopsis Griffiths a crafty undertaker in a small Welsh town hides £150 that he has kept from his wife in the lining of her girdle. Unknown to him she is about to elope with Evans the local milkman. Shortly before she does, she sells the girdle and buys a new one. The old one is sold on to newlywed Mary Rees who leaves for her honeymoon in London. This results in a frantic effort to recover it both by Griffiths, still after the stashed money, and Evans who wants to clear his name of accusations of theft. Montgomery Tully
Montgomery Tully (6 May 190410 October 1988) was an Irish film director and writer. Film career Born in Dublin, Tully studied at the University of London, and originally entered the film industry as a director of documentaries. Later, Tully worked on low-budget British films, and is mostly known for his crime dramas. One of his films, ''No Road Back'' (1957), featured Sean Connery in a very early role. His last film, ''The Terrornauts'', was made in 1967. Roger Maxwell real name Roger Done Latham (1 January 1900 – 24 November 1971) was an English actor and first-class cricketer. The son of Alexander Mere Latham, he was born at Chelsea on New Year's Day in 1900. He was educated at Wellington College, completing his education there in 1917. With the First World War ongoing, Maxwell attended the Royal Military College, Sandhurst from which he graduated into the Middlesex Regiment as a second lieutenant in August 1918. Following the war, he was promoted to lieutenant in September 1921, which was antedated to February 1920. Maxwell played first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) against the British Army cricket team at Lord's in June 1920.
