François Girardon
François Girardon (10 March 1628 – 1 September 1715) was a French sculptor of the Louis XIV style or French Baroque, best known for his statues and busts of Louis XIV and for his statuary in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. Biography He was born at Troyes. His father was a foundry worker. He was first trained as a joiner and woodcarver. His talent attracted the attention of the Chancellor of Louis XIV, Pierre Séguier, a serious patron of the arts, who arranged for him to work in the studio of François Anguier, and later, from 1648 to 1650 to live and apprentice in Rome. There he saw Baroque sculpture and met Bernini, but he came to reject that style and moved instead toward classicism and the models of ancient Roman sculpture. Michèle Girardon
Michèle Girardon (9 August 1938 – 25 March 1975), sometimes credited as Michele Girardon, was a French actress. Career Born in Lyon, France, Girardon began acting as early as 1956, and had a small but noticeable role as a deaf-mute beauty in director Luis Buñuel's '' La mort en ce jardin (Death in the Garden)'' (1956). She soon became prominent in a host of films, including those of notable directors of the French New Wave. She is probably best known as an actress for her work in director Louis Malle's ''Les Amants (The Lovers)'' in 1958, and the 1961 Howard Hawks production of ''Hatari!'' starring John Wayne and Hardy Krüger; for the latter, as she spoke no English when cast in the role, she taught herself English while on the set, according to a July 1961 ''Life'' magazine profile of the actress. Catherine Duchemin
Catherine Duchemin (12 November 1630 – 21 September 1698) was a French flower and fruit painter. She was born in Paris as the daughter of the sculptor Jaques Duchemin and Elizabeth Hubault. She married the sculptor Girardon in 1657, and 14 April 1663 was received into the Academy as the first lady on whom this honour had been conferred. Her reception piece was a flower still-life. Her portrait was painted by Sébastien Bourdon, whose portrait she also painted.
