Giovanni Palmieri (tennis)
Giovanni Palmieri (11 October 1906 – unknown) was an Italian tennis player who was active during the 1930s. Career Amateur Palmieri took part in the Wimbledon Championships editions of 1932 and 1935. In 1932 he competed in the singles event and lost in the first round. With Winifred Beamish he played in the mixed doubles event and reached the second round. In 1935 he defeated Hideo Nishimura and Cam Malfroy to reach the third round of the singles event in which he lost to seventh-seeded Roderich Menzel in straight sets. He teamed up with Valentino Taroni in the doubles event and were defeated in the first round. At the French Championships he competed in the singles event from 1932 to 1934. At his first participation in 1932 he reached the third round in which he played 12th-seeded George Lyttleton-Rogers. Palmieri led by two sets to one but eventually lost in five sets. Italian Open (tennis)
The Italian Open ( it, Internazionali d'Italia; literally: ''Italy's Internationals''), originally called the Italian International Championships, is a tennis tournament held in Rome, Italy. It is one of the most important clay tennis tournaments in the world with the men's competition being an ATP Tour Masters 1000 event on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour, and the women's competition being a WTA 1000 event on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tour. The two events were combined in 2011. The tournament is played on clay courts, currently during the second week of May. Henri Cochet
Henri Jean Cochet (; 14 December 1901 – 1 April 1987) was a French tennis player. He was a world No. 1 ranked player, and a member of the famous " Four Musketeers" from France who dominated tennis in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Born in Villeurbanne, Rhône, Cochet won a total 22 Majors including seven Grand Slam singles, five doubles and three mixed doubles. In addition he won three singles, two doubles and one mixed doubles ILTF majors. He also won one professional Major in singles. During his major career he won singles and doubles titles on three different surfaces: clay, grass and wood. He was ranked as world No. 1 player for four consecutive years, 1928 through 1931 by A. Wallis Myers. Cochet turned professional in 1933, but after a less than stellar pro career he was reinstated as an amateur after the end of World War II in 1945. Olympia London, sometimes referred to as the Olympia Exhibition Centre, is an exhibition centre, event space and conference centre in West Kensington, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, London, England. Heinrich Kleinschroth
Heinrich Kleinschroth (; 15 March 1890 – 10 January 1979) was an amateur German tennis player who found success in the early 20th century, mainly in doubles competitions. Tennis career At the age of 20 he became the Catalan champion by winning both the singles and doubles with his brother in the Barcelona tournament (He repeated his doubles feat again in 1914). The same year he won the Homburg Cup by defeating the three-times defending champion and Germany's top player Otto Froitzheim. He also became Austrian Champion after claiming the Austrian International Championships in Vienna. In September 1910 he won the singles title at the Montreux Tournament after defeating R. The 1932 International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the 27th edition of what is now known as the Davis Cup. 22 teams would enter the Europe Zone; while 8 would enter the Americas Zone, 5 in North America and 3 in South America. The Italy men's national tennis team represents Italy in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Federazione Italiana Tennis. Italy won the Davis Cup in 1976, and finished as runners-up six times (1960, 1961, 1977, 1979, 1980, and 1998). They currently compete in the World Group. Bordighera Championship
The Bordighera Championship was a combined clay court tennis tournament held at the Bordighera Lawn Tennis Club(f.1878), Bordighera, Liguria, Italy from 1913 to 1952. History The Bordighera Lawn Tennis Club was formally established in 1878 with the help of the Bishop of London John Jackson who chaired a committee of British expatriates,Bordighera LTC who were resident in Bordighera at that time to provide funds for the construction of the tennis behind the English Church. (this was the first tennis club in Italy). In 1913 the Bordighera Championship was established. Jean Lesueur (tennis)
Jean Gustave Louis Lesueur (24 June 1910 – 27 August 1969) was a French tennis player. A left-handed player from Dieppe, Lesueur was most active during the 1930s and won seven national titles. Lesueur made the fourth round of the French Championships in both 1931 and 1937. His exit from the 1937 tournament was unusual in that he was forced to forfeit by the referee after chatting with his friends in the stands instead of arriving on court in time for his match against Bunny Austin. In 1938 he featured in a Davis Cup tie against Germany in Berlin, where he and Yvon Petra lost a five set doubles rubber to Henner Henkel and Georg von Metaxa. Bunny Austin
Henry Wilfred "Bunny" Austin (26 August 1906 – 26 August 2000) was an English tennis player. For 74 years he was the last Briton to reach the final of the men's singles at Wimbledon, until Andy Murray did so in 2012. He was also a finalist at the 1937 French Championships and a championship winner at Queen's Club. Along with Fred Perry, he was a vital part of the British team that won the Davis Cup in three consecutive years (1933–35). He is also remembered as the first tennis player to wear shorts. Monte-Carlo Masters
The Monte-Carlo Masters is an annual tennis tournament for male professional players held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, a commune that borders on Monaco. The event is part of the ATP Tour Masters 1000 on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour. The tournament is played on clay courts and is held every year in the April–May period. The Monte Carlo tennis championship was first held in 1897. It became an "Open" event in 1969. From 1970 through 1973 and from 1976 through 1989 it was a major tournament of the Grand Prix Tour. In 1973 the tournament was part of the Rothmans Spring Mediterranean Circuit. From 1974 through 1977 the tournament was part of the World Championship Tennis (WCT) circuit.
