Giovanni Maddalena is full professor of theoretical philosophy at the University of Molise, Italy. He works on American philosophy, especially focusing on Charles Sanders Peirce and classic pragmatists. The University of Molise ( it, Università degli Studi del Molise), also known as UNIMOL, is an Italian public university located in Campobasso, Italy. It was founded in 1982 by the Law n.590 according to the plan for the development and institution of new universities; the campuses of this university are all set in the region of Molise and they are: in Campobasso (Headquarter), Pesche and Termoli. History In the years 1982-1983 the University opened, but the only faculty was Agricultural Science, then with the opening of the faculties of Economics and especially of Law, the number of students grew. Charles Sanders Peirce
Charles Sanders Peirce ( ; September 10, 1839 – April 19, 1914) was an American philosopher, logician, mathematician and scientist who is sometimes known as "the father of pragmatism". Educated as a chemist and employed as a scientist for thirty years, Peirce made major contributions to logic, a subject that, for him, encompassed much of what is now called epistemology and the philosophy of science. He saw logic as the formal branch of semiotics, of which he is a founder, which foreshadowed the debate among logical positivists and proponents of philosophy of language that dominated 20th-century Western philosophy. Additionally, he defined the concept of abductive reasoning, as well as rigorously formulated mathematical induction and deductive reasoning. Pragmatism is a philosophical tradition that considers words and thought as tools and instruments for prediction, problem solving, and action, and rejects the idea that the function of thought is to describe, represent, or mirror reality. The ''École normale supérieure - PSL'' (; also known as ''ENS'', ''Normale sup, ''Ulm'' or ''ENS Paris'') is a ''grande école'' university in Paris, France.
