Giovanni II Participazio
Giovanni II Participazio (or ''Particiaco'') was the thirteenth (historical) or fifteenth (traditional) Doge of Venice after the death of his father, Orso I, in 881 until his resignation in 887. Prior to that, he co-ruled with his father. History He was a nepotist intent on continuing the power of his own dynasty. He tried to obtain the government of Comacchio for his brother Badoaro and to this end sent him to the pope. However, Marinus, count of Comacchio, captured him and sent him back to Venice, where he soon died. Giovanni attacked and devastated Comacchio, but he could not hold it, because it was the pope's. In 883, Giovanni negotiated a favourable treaty with the Emperor Charles the Fat. Giovanni associated his brother Pietro in the dogeship, but he died. He then associated his brother Orso, but he refused to accept it until Giovanni became seriously ill. Then the Venetians elected Pietro Candiano doge and Giovanni retired to private life. Giovanni II Valente
Giovanni II Valente (Genoa, 1280 – Genoa, 1360) was the third doge of the Republic of Genoa. His time in office was marked by the crushing defeat of the city against the Venetians at the naval Battle of Alghero. Giovanni had already asked to succeed the first doge of the Republic in December 1345 but had turn down the responsibility. A doge at war After the death of his predecessor, Giovanni I da Murta, a short crisis of succession ensued. The ''popolani'' supported Luchino Fieschi while the patricians and the partisans of the late doge backed his son, Tommaso da Murta. Giovanni Valente finally emerged as a candidate of compromise and was elected on January 9, 1350. When Valente abandoned the careful foreign policy of his predecessor and tried to expel entirely the Venetians from the Black Sea, the tension between Genoa and Venice erupted into open warfare. Giovanni II Bentivoglio (12 February 144315 February 1508) was an Italian nobleman who ruled as tyrant of Bologna from 1463 until 1506. He had no formal position, but held power as the city's "first citizen." The Bentivoglio family ruled over Bologna from 1443, and repeatedly attempted to consolidate their hold of the Signoria of the city. Background Born in Bologna, Giovanni II was the son of Annibale I Bentivoglio, then chief magistrate of the commune, and Donnina Visconti. He was a child when his father was murdered by his rival Battista Canneschi in June 1445. Annibale I was succeeded in Bologna by Sante I, of uncertain paternity and origin, but alleged to be a son of Ercole Bentivoglio, a cousin of Annibale I. Originally an apprentice of the wool guild of Florence, Sante ruled as ''signore'' of Bologna from 1443. Giovanni II Ventimiglia, 6th Marquis Of Geraci
Giovanni II Ventimiglia y Moncada, 6th Marquis of Geraci (died 1533) was a Sicilian aristocrat, a member of the prominent House of Venitmiglia. Giovanni II Ventimiglia y Moncada, was the son of Simone I Ventimiglia, 5th Marquis of Geraci, (1485–1544). Giovanni II was confirmed as the 6th Marquis in 1545. His grandson, Giovanni III (1559–1619) and former Viceroys of Sicily, is sometimes erroneously as Giovanni II. Giovanni III also served as President of Sicily Kingdom, 1595, 1598 and 1608. In 1527 Giovanni married Isabella Moncada y La Grua, niece of the former Spanish Viceroy of Sicily and Naples, and daughter of Hugo's brother, Juan de Moncada y de Tolça, 3rd Count of Marmilia and 1st Count of Aitona.
