Giovanni De Gennaro (canoeist)
Giovanni De Gennaro (born 21 July 1992) is an Italian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2008. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Career De Gennaro won three medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with a gold (K1 team: 2013) a silver (K1: 2022) and a bronze (K1 team: 2011). He also won two silvers and one bronze medal at the European Championships. De Gennaro competed at two Olympic Games. In his first Olympic participation he finished 7th in the K1 event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He then finished 14th in the K1 event at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo after being eliminated in the semifinal. Canoe Slalom
Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport. History Canoe slalom racing started in Switzerland in 1933, initially on a flatwater course. The 2014 ICF World Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Penrith, Australia from 23 to 27 April 2014 under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium. It was the 16th edition of the competition for Juniors (U18) and the 3rd edition for the Under 23 category. Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's Slalom K-1
The men's K-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 28 and 30 July 2021 at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Course. 24 canoeists from 24 nations competed. Jiří Prskavec from the Czech Republic won the event, Jakub Grigar from Slovakia was second, and Hannes Aigner from Germany third. Prskavec and Aigner were bronze medalists in this event at the 2016 and 2012 Olympics, respectively; for Grigar, this is the first Olympic medal. The 2010 European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Markkleeberg, Germany from 4 to 8 August 2010 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA) at the Kanupark Markkleeberg artificial course.
