Giorgia Patten
Giorgia Patten (born 12 December 1999) is an Australian representative, Olympic and national champion rower. She is a national U23 and senior champion and has placed second at World U23 Championships. She rowed in the Australian women's eight at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Club and state rowing Patten is a West Australian who took up rowing at school at Perth College. Her senior club rowing has been from the West Australian Rowing Club. Her state representative debut for Western Australia came in the 2017 youth eight which contested the Bicentennial Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. She again rowed in the West Australian youth eight in 2018. She made Western Australia's senior women's eight in 2019 and contested the Queen's Cup at the Interstate Regatta for WA in 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys.
