Gina Wynbrandt
Gina Wynbrandt is an American comic book artist and illustrator. Background Wynbrandt was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1990. She is a graduate of Walter Payton College Prep and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the niece of comic book artist and software designer Mike Saenz. Career Wynbrandt was nominated for an Ignatz Award in 2015 for Promising New Talent, based on the work in her minicomic ''Big Pussy''. Her first graphic novel ''Someone Please Have Sex With Me'' was published by 2dcloud in 2016. Barcelona International Comic Fair
Barcelona International Comic Fair is an annual fair and convention of authors, publishers and comic readers, managed by . It takes place in the city of Barcelona since 1981, and is an event of reference on the Spanish comic market. Prizes The Prizes are awarded to the best works published on the year preceding the Convention. An exception is the Gran Premi del Saló (Grand Prize of the Barcelona International Comics Convention), which is awarded to an author based on his entire career. Best American Comics
''The Best American Comics'' was a yearly anthology of comics in the United States published by Houghton Mifflin from 2006 to 2019 as part of ''The Best American Series''. Stories were chosen using the same procedure as the other Best American titles, whereby a series editor chose 80–120 candidates from which a guest editor picked about 20 for publication. Most of the runner-up stories were listed in the appendix. The series editors were Anne Elizabeth Moore (2006–07), Jessica Abel & Matt Madden (2008–2013), and Bill Kartalopoulos (2014–2019). On September 30, 2020, Kartalopoulos announced on Twitter that the series had been discontinued. He also provided a more detailed account of his time working on the series and its cancellation on his personal website. ''The Believer'' is an American bimonthly magazine of interviews, essays, and reviews, founded by the writers Heidi Julavits, Vendela Vida, and Ed Park in 2003. The magazine is a five-time finalist for the National Magazine Award. Between 2003 and 2015, ''The Believer'' was published by McSweeney's, the independent press founded in 1998 by Dave Eggers. Eggers designed ''The Believer'' original design template. Park left ''The Believer'' in 2011, with Julavits and Vida continuing to serve as editors. In 2017, the magazine found a new home, moving from McSweeney's to the Beverly Rogers, Carol C. Chicago Alternative Comics Expo
The Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (widely known as CAKE) is a comic book festival usually held each June in Chicago. Inaugurated in 2012, the curated festival showcases graphic novels, comic books, minicomics, and zines created by independent artists and publishers. CAKE focuses on the art of comics, and unlike traditional comic book conventions, does not feature much in the way of cosplaying, collectibles, back-issue dealers, or mainstream superhero publishers. Instead, the show centers around an artist alley-style exhibition space that features roughly 200 vendors, as well as industry-related panel discussions. The festival gives out the CupCake Awards, geared toward minicomic self-publishers.
