Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima (also known for its acronym GEBA) is an Argentine multi-sports club placed in the city of Buenos Aires. The institution is one of the oldest in the country, having been established in 1880. Gimnasia y Esgrima is also one of the largest clubs of Argentina, with around 30 different disciplines hosted in the three buildings that the institution owns in Buenos Aires. History The institution was founded as "Club Cosmopolita de Gimnasia y Esgrima" on 11 November 1880, by fencing and gymnastics enthusiasts in the "Confitería del Aguila", a traditional coffee house of Buenos Aires. Léon Marchand was designed as the first president of the club. Three years later, in 1883, the club changed its name to "Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima". In 1909 Ricardo Camilo Aldao became president of the institution.

Club Gimnasia y Esgrima de Comodoro Rivadavia is an Argentine basketball and team handball club based in the city of Comodoro Rivadavia in Chubut Province. The basketball team currently plays in the Liga Nacional de Básquet, the top level of the Argentine league system. Its home arena is the Estadio Socios Fundadores. History A group of inhabitants of Comodoro Rivadavia (most of them with Spanish ancestors) established Club Gimnasia y Esgrima on February 13, 1919. Eloy Cánovas was elected president of the club although the club was registered 20 years later. At the beginning, Gimnasia was a social club rather a sports institution. Gimnasia was first based on España street, moving then to San Martín street of the same city. The Gimnasia y Esgrima basketball section is part of the Argentine sports club Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. The professional senior team currently competes in La Liga Argentina de Básquet (former "Torneo Nacional de Ascenso"), the second division of Argentine basketball league system. Gimnasia y Esgrima plays its home venues at Polideportivo Víctor Nethol, a multi-purpose stadium with capacity of 3,000. History Basketball was practiced for the first time at the club in the 1920s. In 1924 the institution built a stadium on the corner of 60 and 118 streets. Since that time, it would become one of the major sports in the club.
