Gimlet (Transformers)
is a 1998 Japanese ''Transformers'' anime series, spawning a movie and a toyline. It was broadcast on TV Tokyo from April 1998 to January 1999, and was the first ''Transformers'' anime to be produced by Nihon Ad Systems and animated by the studio Ashi Productions. The series was preceded by '' Beast Wars: Transformers'', and was followed by '' Super Life-Form Transformers: Beast Wars Neo''. The series has a much lighter tone and is aimed more toward children, whereas the more accessible ''Beast Wars'' was intended for a wider age-range. The anime uses conventional animation rather than the CGI of its predecessor. With the exception of the faction leaders, all of the characters within the toy-line are either remolds, reissues, or recolors of earlier ''Beast Wars'' or Generation 2/Machine Wars toys. In addition to the 43 episodes, there is also a 50-minute movie, '' Beast Wars II: Lio Convoy's Close Call!'', which takes place sometime between episodes 32 and 38, and a manga ada ...

Captain Lorrington "Gimlet" King
Captain Lorrington "Gimlet" King is a character created by the British author W.E. Johns, best known as the creator of Biggles and Worrals. King's nickname is taken from a gimlet, a tool used for drilling small holes - and hence the term " gimlet-eyed", meaning someone with piercing eyes and keen vision. Johns is thought to have been inspired by Major 'Gimlet' Champion, one of his commanding officers during his flying career. The rest of the name may have been inspired by South African soldier and adventurer William Lorraine King who died shortly before the first novel was published. The books which were published during and after World War II, are about the adventures of explorer-soldier "Gimlet" King, and his intrepid band of followers. His regular comrades are Corporal Albert "Copper" Edward (an ex-policeman), Private "Trapper" Troublay, and Nigel Norman "Cub" Peters. Gimlet and his team of commandos were designed to represent the multiple ethnicities of the British Empire; ...

Gimlet (rocket)
The Gimlet was an unguided air-to-air and air-to-surface rocket developed by the United States Navy during the early 1950s. Although it proved successful in testing and was ordered into large-scale production, the arrival of the guided missile as a practical and reliable weapon resulted in the cancellation of the Gimlet rocket in 1957. Design and development The development of the Gimlet rocket began in 1951, with the initiation of development of a rocket for air-to-air use.Babcock 2008, p. 210. Work on the rocket was conducted at the Naval Ordnance Test Station (NOTS) at China Lake, California, and the project was begun at the behest of North American Aviation. in addition, the 1.5-inch rocket was felt as the ideal caliber to 'fill in a gap' in the U.S. Navy's rocket inventory; studies indicated that aircraft could carry six times the number of 1.5-inch rockets as opposed to the then-in-service Folding Fin Aerial Rocket.Babcock 2008, p. 211. In 1952, however, the Bureau ...

Gimlet (tool)
A gimlet is a hand tool for drilling small holes, mainly in wood, without splitting. It was defined in Joseph Gwilt's ''Architecture'' (1859) as "a piece of steel of a semi-cylindrical form, hollow on one side, having a cross handle at one end and a worm or screw at the other". A gimlet is always a small tool. A similar tool of larger size is called an auger. The cutting action of the gimlet is slightly different from an auger and the initial hole it makes is smaller; the cutting edges pare away the wood, which is moved out by the spiral sides, falling out through the entry hole. This also pulls the gimlet farther into the hole as it is turned; unlike a bradawl, pressure is not required once the tip has been drawn in. The name ''gimlet'' comes from the Old French , , later , probably a diminutive of the Anglo-French , a variation of "guimble", from the Middle Low German (cf. the Scandinavian , 'to bore or twist'). Modern French uses the term , also the French for "tendril".'' ...
