Gilpin, Nevada
Gilpin is former railroad siding, located in the far northeast region of Storey County, Nevada. The GNIS locates Gilpin on the south side of the Truckee River, which is where there was a non-agency siding between Thisbe and Fernley on the Southern Pacific Railroad. The siding was abandoned in 1959. In the 1930s, the site of Gilpin was on the north side of the river in Washoe County. In 1905, Captain Matt Barach laid out a townsite at the Washoe County side. At that time a road to Olinghouse was planned but never built. Gilpin, Richmond, Virginia
Gilpin is a small neighborhood located in Richmond, Virginia and within the boundaries of the North Side of the city limits. Originally part and parcel of the historically Black neighborhood of Jackson Ward, the northern section of that neighborhood was heavily redeveloped with the provision of public housing from the mid-20th century onwards, with the major development taking the name "Gilpin Court". During the same period, a massive expansion of highway building around and through central Richmond saw the Gilpin Court and the rest of the neighborhood essentially cut off from the rest of Jackson Ward. Gilpin Peak
Gilpin Peak is a high mountain summit in the Sneffels Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The thirteener is located in the Mount Sneffels Wilderness of Uncompahgre National Forest, north-northeast ( bearing 23°) of the Town of Telluride, Colorado, United States, on the drainage divide between Ouray County and San Miguel County. Gilpin Peak was named in honor of William Gilpin, the first Governor of the Territory of Colorado. Climate According to the Köppen climate classification system, Gilpin Peak is located in an alpine subarctic climate zone with long, cold, snowy winters, and cool to warm summers. Gilpin Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania
Gilpin Township is a Second class Township in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, United States. At the 2010 census it had a population of 2,496. As of the 2020 census, its population had decreased to 2,411, a 3.4% decrease. History Settled in 1814, the area was originally organized as the larger Allegheny Township. In 1878, finding it was too large to manage and supervise, this township was split into three, and Bethel, Gilpin and Parks Townships were incorporated. Gilpin Township is home to many small villages and communities such as Schenley, Aladdin, Forks Church, Johnetta, Godfrey Landing, Georgetown, Bagdad, and Banfield, each of which have a large history of their own. The earliest industries of the township were the sawmills of Michael Barrickman and Philip Klingensmith, the former on Elder's run and the latter on the same run, but higher up. River Gilpin
The River Gilpin is a river in the English county of Cumbria. Formerly, the river was in the county of Westmorland. The river rises near Gilpin Lodge in the vicinity of Bowness-on-Windermere and flows in a general south-by-south-easterly direction through Gilpinpark Plantation. At Crosthwaite, the direction of the river changes from south to south-east, continuing past the hamlet of Row into the Lyth Valley, where it is swelled by the much larger River Pool. From there, the river continues moving south to Sampool, where it meets the River Kent. The name of the river is in honour of the Gilpin family. Gilpin Airlines, formally re-incorporated in 1932 as G & G Gilpin Air Lines Company is an air charter and airline company operated in California, Arizona, and the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California from 1929 to 1934. A residual of the company persisted in Arizona as a flight school and charter business, operating out of Gilpin Field in Tucson, Arizona for several years. Sir Richard Thomas Gilpin, 1st Baronet (12 January 1801 – 8 April 1882) was an English Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1851 to 1880. Gilpin was the only son of Richard Gilpin of Hockliffe, who was Lieutenant-Colonel of the Bedfordshire Militia, and his second wife, Sarah Wilkinson, fourth daughter of William Wilkinson of Westmorland. He was educated at Rugby School and at Christ's College, Cambridge and served in the 14th Light Dragoons, and in the Rifle Brigade reaching the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He was Colonel of the Bedfordshire Militia. He was Deputy Lieutenant and J.P. for Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire and High Sheriff of Bedfordshire in 1850.
