Gilmoreosaurus
''Gilmoreosaurus'' (meaning "Charles Whitney Gilmore's lizard") is the name given to a genus of dinosaur from the Cretaceous of Asia. The type species is ''Gilmoreosaurus mongoliensis''. It is believed to be a hadrosaur or iguanodont from the Iren Dabasu Formation of Inner Mongolia, dating to 96 Megaannum, Ma ago. Additional specimens have been described as distinct species, including ''G. atavus'' from the Khodzhakul Formation of Uzbekistan (120 Ma ago) and ''G. arkhangelskyi'' from the Bissekty Formation (89 Ma ago). However, these are based on very fragmentary remains, and their classification is dubious. An additional species, ''G. kysylkumense'' (also from the Bissekty Formation) is sometimes included, though it has also been referred to the related genus ''Bactrosaurus''. Khodzhakul Formation
The Khodzhakul Formation is a Cenomanian aged geologic formation in Uzbekistan. Iren Dabasu Formation
The Iren Dabasu Formation (also known as Erlian Formation) is a Late Cretaceous geologic formation in the Iren Nor region of Inner Mongolia. Dinosaur remains diagnostic to the genus level are among the fossils that have been recovered from the formation. The formation was first described and defined by Henry Fairfield Osborn in 1922 and it is located in the Iren Nor region of China. Geology It comprises continental clastic sediments consisting of light grey fine sandstones, coarse sandstones and glutenites as well as mottled claystones and siltstones. The fine-grained floodplain sediments and the coarse-grained sediments of the point bar formed a series of repeated frequently binary sedimentary rhythms. The “binary structure” of the sedimentary rhythms strongly indicates meandering stream deposits rather than braided river deposits as previously thought. Bactrosaurus
''Bactrosaurus'' (; meaning "Club lizard," "baktron" = club + ''sauros'' = lizard) is a genus of herbivorous hadrosauroid dinosaur that lived in Asia during the Late Cretaceous, about 96-85 million years ago. The position ''Bactrosaurus'' occupies in the Cretaceous makes it one of the earliest known hadrosauroids, and although it is not known from a full skeleton, ''Bactrosaurus'' is one of the best known of these early hadrosauroids, making its discovery a significant finding. Discovery The first ''Bactrosaurus'' remains recovered from the Iren Dabasu Formation in the Gobi Desert of China were composed of partial skeletons of six individual ''B. johnsoni''. Bissekty Formation
The Bissekty Formation (sometimes referred to as Bissekt) is a geologic formation and Lagerstätte which crops out in the Kyzyl Kum desert of Uzbekistan, and dates to the Late Cretaceous Period. Laid down in the mid to late Turonian, it is dated to about 92 to 90 Ma (million years ago). Description The lithology of the sediment largely consists of cross bedded sandstones with interbeds of massive sandstone, well cemented intraformational conglomerate, siltstones and mudstones. Most of the fossils are found as clasts within the conglomerates. Fossil content The Bissekty Formation is characterised by a mix of marine, brackish, freshwater, and terrestrial animal fossils. Charles Whitney Gilmore (March 11, 1874 – September 27, 1945) was an American paleontologist who gained renown in the early 20th century for his work on vertebrate fossils during his career at the United States National Museum (now the National Museum of Natural History). ''Saurolophus'' (; meaning "lizard crest") is a genus of large hadrosaurid dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous period of Asia and North America, that lived in what is now the Horseshoe Canyon and Nemegt formations about 70 million to 68 million years ago.
