Gillian Lucky
Gillian Lucky (born 1967) is a Justice of Appeal at the Supreme Court of Judicature for Trinidad and Tobago. She was previously a High Court Judge, Director of the Police Complaints Authority, and a Member of Parliament for Pointe-à-Pierre. Early life Lucky is the daughter of Anthony Lucky and Cintra Lucky. She has three siblings, Cindy Ann Lucky, Elizabeth Lucky and Antonia Lucky. She is a former competitive calypsonian. She attended Naparima Girls' High School. Career She received her LLB from the University of the West Indies in 1989 with upper second class honours and was awarded the Therese Sylvester Prize for the Most Outstanding University Student at the Cave Hill Campus. The Supreme Court of Judicature for Trinidad and Tobago is the superior court for Trinidad and Tobago. It was established in accordance with the Constitution of Trinidad and Tobago and the Supreme Court of Judicature Act, 1962. Composition The Supreme Court of Judicature consists of a High Court of Justice and a Court of Appeal. The High Court is made up of the Chief Justice and between six and thirty-six puisine judges, and the Court of Appeal is made of up the Chief Justice and twelve Justices of Appeal. The judges have seniority according to their date of appointment and Justices of Appeal have precedence over High Court Justices. A judge cannot be appointed to the High Court unless they have been a member of the Bar of England and Wales or an attorney-at-law under the Legal Profession Act, 1986 for ten years. Paula-Mae Weekes (born 23 December 1958) is a Trinidadian politician and jurist who is the sixth president of Trinidad and Tobago. She is the first female President of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the second female head of state in Trinidad and Tobago after Elizabeth II and the second female president of African descent in the Americas following Ertha Pascal-Trouillot. She took office on 19 March 2018. Career Weekes attended the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree, and the Hugh Wooding Law School, and was called to the Bar in 1982.
