Alexe Gilles
Alexe Gilles (born January 16, 1992) is an American former competitive figure skater. Gilles is the 2008 Junior Grand Prix Final bronze medalist and the 2008 U.S. national junior champion. Personal life Gilles was born in Rockford, Illinois. She graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 2010. She is the sister of Piper Gilles (twin), Todd Gilles, Kemper Gilles and Shelby Gilles. Career Gilles began skating at age 2. In 2000, she began working with Tom Zakrajsek and Becky Calvin in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Gilles competed for two seasons on the JGP circuit and won a bronze medal at the 2008 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final. She also competed for two seasons on the senior Grand Prix series. Eve Gilles (born 9 July 2003) is a French model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss France 2024. She had previously been crowned Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais 2023 and is the fourth woman from Nord-Pas-de-Calais to win Miss France. Herbert Michael Gilles (10 September 1921 – 20 October 2015) was a Maltese-British physician and professor of tropical medicine, recognized as a leading expert in his field. Early life, education and military service Gilles was born to Maltese parents (the family name was originally Galea) living in Port Said, Egypt, and went to a French school there until the age of 11. He then became a boarding school student for his secondary education at St. Edward's College, Malta. After completing his secondary education, he studied at the Royal University of Malta, where he received his BSc in 1943. In 1943 he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford but WW II prevented him from utilizing the Rhodes Scholarship. During WW II, Gilles served from 1940 to 1944 as an officer/cadet in the Royal Malta Artillery; during the Siege of Malta, he manned one of the anti-aircraft batteries. Jean Gilles (8 January 1668 – 5 February 1705) was a French composer, born at Tarascon. Biography After receiving his musical training as a choirboy at the Cathedral of Saint-Sauveur at Aix-en-Provence, he succeeded his teacher Guillaume Poitevin as music master there. After moving on several times, he became music master at the Cathedral of St Etienne at Toulouse in 1697, as the successor of André Campra. His musical style was influenced by Campra, as were most musicians of his day. He composed motets and a famous requiem, which was performed for the first time at his own funeral (because the original commissioner thought it too expensive to perform), but was later sung at the funeral services for Jean-Philippe Rameau in 1764, Stanisław Leszczyński, King of Poland in 1766, and Louis XV in 1774. Jean Gilles (French Army Officer)
Jean Marcellin Joseph Calixte Gilles (14 October 1904 – 10 August 1961) was a French Army general. He was born in Perpignan, France on 14 October 1904. His father, Joseph Gilles, was killed in the First World War. Early life At age 12, Jean enrolled in a military school and at age 18, entered the renowned Saint-Cyr Military Academy, where he lost an eye in a training accident, replacing it with one made of glass. On leaving school he was assigned to 24e régiment de tirailleurs sénégalais (24th Regiment Senegalese Infantry) and took part in the Rif War in northern Morocco, where he received his first citation, and the Medal of Alfonso XIII of Spain. He served as a Camel Corps officer until leaving Morocco with the rank of captain in 1938. Osmond Gilles
__NOTOC__ Osmond Gilles (24 August 1788 – 25 September 1866) was a settler, pastoralist, mine owner and the Colony of South Australia’s first colonial treasurer. Born in London of Huguenot descent, in 1816 he went into partnership with Philip Oakden in Hamburg, Germany as a merchant, where in 1825 he married Patience Oakden, Philip's sister. They returned to England, where his wife died in 1833. They had no children, and Gilles never remarried, but took on several protegees, including his nephew John Jackson Oakden. Gilles migrated to the new Australian colony on in 1836 accompanied by his ward Emily Blunden (referred to as Blundell on the passenger list), sister of Dr John Blunden, and acted as the Colonial Treasurer. Piper Gilles (; born January 16, 1992) is an American-Canadian ice dancer who currently represents Canada internationally. With Paul Poirier, she is the 2021 World bronze medalist and 2022–23 Grand Prix Final champion, as well as a three-time Four Continents medalist (silver in 2014 and 2020, bronze in 2019), three-time Skate Canada International champion (2019, 2021–22), and two-time Canadian national champion (2020, 2022). Gilles and Poirier competed for Canada at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. Todd Gilles (born April 14, 1986) is an American former ice dancer. With Trina Pratt, he won four ISU Junior Grand Prix medals and the 2005 U.S. national junior title, and placed sixth at the 2006 World Junior Championships. With Jane Summersett, he is the 2008 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalist. He also skated with Emily Samuelson for one season. Personal life Todd Gilles was born in Rockford, Illinois. He has three younger sisters, Piper, who competes for Canada in ice dancing, Alexe, a single skater and Shelby Gilles, who is not in the ice dancing scene.
