Bill Giles (American Football)
William F. Giles (March 10, 1932 – May 28, 1998) was an American college football and college baseball player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska from 1967 to 1971 and at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas from 1972 until 1978, compiling a career college football head coaching record of 51–64–3. Giles was also the head baseball coach at Kearney State College—now known as the University of Nebraska at Kearney—from 1961 to 1964 and Eastern New Mexico University from 1965 to 1966. A native of Alliance, Nebraska, Giles played football as an end at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln from 1951 to 1954. He also lettered in baseball at Nebraska in 1952, 1954, and 1944. Sir Charles Tyrrell Giles King's Counsel, KC (2 February 1850 – 16 January 1940), was a British lawyer and Conservative Party (UK), Conservative politician who represented Wisbech (UK Parliament constituency), Wisbech. Giles was the son of Alfred Giles (civil engineer), Alfred Giles MP for Southampton (UK Parliament constituency), Southampton. Catherine Dawson Giles (1878-1955) was a British modernist watercolour painter. Biography Catherine Dawson Giles was born on July 31, 1878, in Lewisham in south-east London. She attended Goldsmiths, University of London in New Cross in 1900 and later the Royal Academy Schools. She studied with the American painter Max Bohm in Etaples, France, as part of the Etaples art colony. In 1904 she met the English painter and illustrator Jessica Dismorr, a fellow student at Etaples, with whom she became lifelong friends. Dismorr, a member of the Vorticist movement, shared her home in the 1930s and painted her portrait. During World War I Giles served as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse. She traveled throughout Europe and Northern Africa during the 1920s and 30’s on painting trips and also painted many scenes of Etaples. Brian Jeffrey Giles (born April 27, 1960) is a former Major League Baseball player. Drafted in the third round of the 1978 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Mets, Giles reached the major leagues in 1981 and played for the Mets until 1983. In 1984, he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the rule 5 draft. He played 34 games with the Brewers in 1985 before signing with the Chicago White Sox as a free agent.
