Gilberto Reyes (footballer)
Gilberto Rolando Reyes Polanco (born December 10, 1963 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a former catcher in Major League Baseball. Career Reyes was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers on January 15, 1980 and spent four seasons in the Dodgers farm system before making his major league debut in 1983. He alternated between AAA and the Majors for most of the next five seasons before the Dodgers traded him to the Montreal Expos in March 1989. After two seasons with the Expos, he bounced around the minor leagues for several more seasons before retiring after the 1999 season. His nickname as a player was "Onionhead." Early seasons The Dodgers signed Reyes as an undrafted free agent in 1980. At the age of 16 years old, Reyes made his pro debut for the Lethbridge Dodgers of the Pioneer league, appearing in six games. Catcher is a Baseball positions, position in baseball and softball. When a Batter (baseball), batter takes their at bat, turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home plate, home) Umpire (baseball), umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. Jeffrey Thomas Fischer (born August 17, 1963) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball. He pitched in 6 games for the Montreal Expos and Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1987 and 1989 seasons. Fischer was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. Fischer graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in telecommunications in 1986. Orlando Mercado
Orlando Mercado Rodríguez (born November 7, 1961) is a Puerto Rican former professional baseball player. He played all or parts of eight seasons in Major League Baseball with the Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, and Montreal Expos. From 2003 to 2010, he was the bullpen coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. After the 2010 season, Mercado moved to the position of roving catching instructor for the Angels. Ronald Jon Roenicke ( ; born August 19, 1956) is an American former professional baseball outfielder, coach, and manager. During his playing career, Roenicke played eight seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, and Cincinnati Reds. Steve Yeager
Stephen Wayne Yeager (born November 24, 1948) is an American former professional baseball catcher. Yeager spent 14 of the 15 seasons of his Major League Baseball career, from 1972 through 1985, with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His last year, 1986, he played for the Seattle Mariners. John Joseph Fimple (born February 10, 1959) is an American former professional baseball catcher. Drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 29th round of the 1980 Major League Baseball Draft, Fimple made his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 30, 1983, and appeared in his final game on October 4, 1987. He attended college at Humboldt State University. Amateur career Fimple attended Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, California but quit the school's baseball team after an argument with the coach. Albuquerque Dukes
The Albuquerque Dukes were a minor league baseball team based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. History The first Dukes team was formed in 1915 as part of the Class D Rio Grande Association. The team finished in third place with a 32-25 record. Frank Huelman was the league leader in home runs, hitting 10 dingers for the season. These Dukes folded that same year. Albuquerque was host to two other Class D minor-league teams (the Dons and the Albuquerque Cardinals, the latter for which Tingley Field was built) before the Dukes returned in 1942, this time with the Class D West Texas–New Mexico League. The Dukes went 24-30, but withdrew from competition in June of that year.
