Gilbert Kirwa
Gilbert Kipruto Kirwa (born 20 December 1985) is a Kenyan athlete who specialises in long-distance running and the marathon. His personal best for the marathon is 2:06:14 hours and has won races in Vienna and Frankfurt. Career A Nandi from Nandi Hills, Kenya, Kirwa had no background in running when a friend, the Ugandan professional runner Nicholas Kiprono, asked him to begin training with him in 2005. Based on what he had seen in training, Jason Mbote asked if Kirwa would be a pacemaker for him at the 2008 Seoul International Marathon in South Korea. This was the first time Kirwa had left Kenya, and his first ever international competition, but he set a strong pace up to the 33 kilometre mark and athletics agent Gerard van de Veen signed him on the strength of the run. Hamburg Half Marathon
The Hamburg Half Marathon is an annual road running event held in Hamburg, Germany. It is currently sponsored by . History The race was first run in 1995 in Hamburg Stadtpark and was named the Hamburg-Mannheimer Cup. In 2003, the course was changed so that it ran through the city, and the race was renamed Hamburg Halbmarathon (Hamburg Half Marathon). Hella became the title sponsor the following year, in 2004. Patrick Makau Musyoki (born 2 March 1985) is a runner from Kenya. He is a former world record holder in the marathon—His time of 2:03:38, run at the 2011 Berlin Marathon, was the world record for two years, until it was beaten by Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich at the 2013 Berlin Marathon. He is also notable for his half marathon performances, having won a number of prominent competitions in Europe in sub-1-hour performances. Career Makau attended Unyuani School until 1999, after which he joined Kyeni Academy, Misiani. He started running in 2001. He competed at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships and finished in 26th place. He finished second at the 2007 Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon by running 59:13 minutes, being beaten only by Samuel Wanjiru who set the world record (58:53) at the same race. Samuel Kiplimo Kosgei (January 20, 1986) is a Kenyan-born American long-distance runner who specializes in road running competitions. One of his first international competitions was the Outer Banks Half Marathon in 2007, where he finished first in 1:02:34. The following year he ran at the 2008 World's Best 10K in Puerto Rico where he recorded a time of 28:13 for sixth place. He finished second at the Reims Marathon later that year. He returned to Puerto Rico in 2009 and improved upon his past performance, running a personal best of 27:49 for fourth place behind Wilson Kipsang. Kosgei greatly improved his half marathon best at the Berlin Half Marathon, running 59:36 and finished just two seconds behind the winner Bernard Kipyego.
