Gilbert H. Jertberg
Gilbert H. Jertberg (February 1, 1897 – June 8, 1973) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and previously was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. Education and career Born in Springfield, Missouri, Jertberg was a lieutenant in the United States Army during World War I, from 1917 to 1918. He received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Stanford University in 1920 and a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School in 1922. He was a deputy district attorney of Fresno County, California from 1923 to 1924. He was in private practice in Fresno, California from 1924 to 1955. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. World War I
World War I (28 July 1914 11 November 1918), often abbreviated as WWI, was one of the deadliest global conflicts in history. The United States Senate is the upper chamber of the United States Congress, with the House of Representatives being the lower chamber. Together they compose the national bicameral legislature of the United States. The composition and powers of the Senate are established by Article One of the United States Constitution.
