Jakób Gieysztor
Jakób Gieysztor (Lithuanian language, Lithuanian: ''Jokūbas Geištoras''; 18 April 1827 – 15 November 1897) was a Polish-Lithuanian identity, Polish-Lithuanian nobleman and politician who participated in the January Uprising, January Uprising of 1863. Gieysztor was also an antiquarian, publicist, and one of the leaders of the ''Whites (January Uprising), Whites'' political group in Lithuania. He has published his memoirs of his participation in the uprising and the subsequent deportation to Siberia. Ancestry Jakób Gieysztor in his own memoirs notes that he is a descendant of a not very wealthy, but well-known noble family in Lithuania, and explains that "there was no truly historical figure in the Gieysztor family", although he notes that the family has been mentioned in Lithuania for several hundred years. Aleksander Gieysztor
Aleksander Gieysztor (17 July 1916 – 9 February 1999) was a Polish medievalist historian. Life Aleksander Gieysztor was born to a Polish family in Moscow, Russia, where his father worked as a railwayman. In 1921, the family relocated to Poland and settled in Warsaw. He graduated in history from the University of Warsaw in 1937. He was married to Irena Gieysztor née Czarnecka, a fellow historian. The Aleksander Gieysztor Prize of the Kronenberg Foundation and the Aleksander Gieysztor Academy of Humanities are named after him. Geysztor or Gieysztor is a Polish coat of arms. It was used by several Szlachta families in the times of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. History Name goes back to the year 1582 and Grand Duchy of Lithuania. There are two branches of the family. One is spelled Geysztor (in the south), the other Gieysztor (in the north).
