The locality was established on 26 April 2013 in respect to “the long established local name.” Its name is derived from the former pastoral lease. The locality includes the company town of Moomba, South Australia, Moomba and the Moomba Airport. The Strzelecki Track passes through the locality. Cordillo Downs, South Australia
Cordillo Downs or Cordillo Downs Station is both a pastoral lease currently operating as a cattle station and a formal bounded locality in South Australia. It is located about north of Innamincka and south east of Birdsville. The name and boundaries of the locality were created on 26 April 2013 for the long established local name. The station once occupied an area of and was regarded as Australia's largest sheep station (in the 1880s, Cordillo set a record of shearing over 85,000 sheep in a season). One of the best known features of the station is the heritage-listed woolshed that is constructed of stone with a curved tin roof, built this way due to a lack of timber in the area. The Far North is a large region of South Australia close to the Northern Territory border. Stuart is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. At 323,131 km², it is a vast country district extending from the Spencer Gulf as far as the Northern Territory border in the north and the Queensland and New South Wales borders in the east. Coongie Lakes
The Coongie Lakes is a freshwater wetland system located in the Far North (South Australia), Far North region of South Australia. The lakes system is located approximately north of the Adelaide city centre. The wetlands includes lakes, channels, billabongs, shallow floodplains, deltas, and interdune swamps. It lies on the floodplain of Cooper Creek, an ephemeral river flowing through a desert landscape in the Lake Eyre Basin which rarely, after occasional large floods, empties into Lake Eyre. Strzelecki Track
Strzelecki Track is a mostly unsealed outback track in South Australia, linking Innamincka to Lyndhurst. History The track was pioneered by stockman, drover and cattle thief. Harry Readford, iin 1870, who stole drove 1,000 head of cattle and drove them down the track, selling them at Blanchewater Station and then fleeing to Adelaide. Pastoralists then used it as a stock route in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After gas was discovered by Santos in the 1960s, it started carrying more traffic, as a route to Moomba, and some sections were sealed. Description The track links Innamincka to Lyndhurst through the Strzelecki Desert. It is mostly unsealed, but with a few short sealed sections to facilitate overtaking. It is passable to conventional vehicles during the dry season, although caution is required. Innamincka, formerly Hopetoun, is a township and locality in north-east South Australia with a population of 44 people as of the . By air it is north-east of the state capital, Adelaide, and north-east of the closest town, Lyndhurst. It is north-east of the Moomba Gas Refinery. The town lies within the Innamincka Regional Reserve and is surrounded by the Strzelecki Desert to the south and the Sturt Stony Desert to the north.
