Joshua Reed Giddings
Joshua Reed Giddings (October 6, 1795 – May 27, 1864) was an American attorney, politician and a prominent opponent of slavery. He represented Northeast Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1838 to 1859. He was at first a member of the Whig Party and was later a Republican, helping found the party. Giddings is noted as a leading abolitionist of his era. He was censured in 1842 for violating the gag rule against discussing slavery in the House of Representatives when he proposed a number of Resolutions against federal support for the coastwise slave trade, in relation to the ''Creole'' case. He quickly resigned, but was overwhelmingly re-elected by his Ohio constituents in a special election to fill the vacant seat. He returned to the House and served a total of nearly twenty more years as representative. Stuart James Giddings (born 27 March 1986) is an English footballer. Career Born in Coventry, Giddings, a left-back, broke into the Coventry City first-team for his debut at the end of the 2003–04 season, when he came on as a late substitute in the final match of the season against Crystal Palace. He represented England at all youth age groups up to under-19 level, but missed out on the 2005 Under 19 European Championships because of injury. He returned to action as a substitute during a 2–2 draw with Cardiff City in February 2007, but spent the rest of the campaign regaining his fitness ahead of a make-or-break 2007–08 season. Giddings struggled once again with injury during the 2007–08 season. Once he regained fitness, he was sent out on loan to Oldham Athletic. Ruth Giddings
Ruth Giddings (born Wellwood 3 September 1911 – 20 November 2015) was an Irish people, Irish Contract bridge, bridge player. She had a long career that included winning 54 national titles, leading her to become one of the best Irish players of contract bridge of her time. Biography Giddings was born in Cork (city), Cork on 3 September 1911. She graduated from Alexandra College and went on to work in Bank of Ireland. She started playing contract bridge in her mid-thirties. Giddings died 20 November 2015, aged 104. The ''The Irish Times, Irish Times'' called her "one of the greatest Irish players of all time." According to the Contract Bridge Association of Ireland, she was "Unquestionably Ireland's greatest woman player." She is currently the most-capped Irish people, Irish player of all time.
