Gianna Gancia (born 31 December 1972, in Bra) is an Italian politician. In 2009 she was elected President of the Province of Cuneo. In 2014 she was elected to the Regional Council of Piedmont, with 6,284 preference votes. In the 2019 EP election she has been elected as a member of the European Parliament. Lega Nord (; acronym: LN), whose complete name is (), is a right-wing, federalist, populist and conservative political party in Italy. In the run-up of the 2018 general election, the party was rebranded as (), without changing its official name. The party was nonetheless frequently referred to only as "Lega" even before the rebranding, and informally as the (). The party's latest elected leader was Matteo Salvini. The 2019 European Parliament election in Italy were held on 26 May 2019, electing members of the 9th Italian delegation to the European Parliament as part of the European elections held across the European Union. Electoral system The party-list proportional representation was the traditional electoral system of the Italian Republic from its establishment in 1946 to 1994, therefore it was also adopted to elect the Italian members of the European Parliament (MEPs) since 1979. Two levels were introduced: a national level to divide the seats among parties and a constituency level to distribute them among candidates in open lists. Five constituencies were established, each including 2–5 regions and each electing a fixed number of MEPs. The Regional Council of Piedmont (''Consiglio Regionale del Piemonte'') is the legislative assembly of Piedmont. It was first elected in 1970, when the ordinary regions were instituted, on the basis of the Constitution of Italy of 1948.
