Gianluca Pianegonda (born September 23, 1968 in Thiene) is a former Italian racing cyclist. His most notable result was winning stage 2 of the 1995 Vuelta a España. He also held the leader's jersey for one day. Tirreno–Adriatico, nicknamed the "Race of the Two Seas", is an elite road cycling stage race in Italy, run between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic coasts. Traditionally held in the early part of the season, it is considered to be an important preparation for the Giro d'Italia. It is held one day after Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, on the last Sunday of February or the first of March, and completes the opening weekend of the Belgian cycling season.
