Gianfranco Bianchin
Gianfranco Bianchin (6 February 1947 – 1 August 1970) was an Italian professional road cyclist. Bianchin died at the age of 23, drowning in the Adriatic Sea in only his second season as a professional. He won the 1970 Giro di Toscana and placed second in the Giro di Campania the same year and the Coppa Sabatini the previous year. He also competed in the 1969 and 1970 Giro d'Italia. The Trofeo Gianfranco Bianchin race is named after him, which has been organized since 1970 in Ponzano Veneto. Coppa Placci
The Coppa Placci is a semi classic European bicycle race held between Imola, Italy and San Marino. Since 2005, the race has been organised as a 1.HC event on the UCI Europe Tour. The race is named after Antonio Placci, a cyclist born in Imola who died in 1921, two years before the race was created. Because of sponsorship problems, in 2010 the race has been excluded from the UCI Europe Tour and was reserved to the Elite/Under 23 Category. In 2011 the race was held as Giro della Romagna - Coppa Placci and won by Oscar Gatto. The 1970 Giro d'Italia was the 53rd edition of the Giro, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The race consisted of 20 stages, starting in San Pellegrino Terme on 18 May and finishing Bolzano on 7 June. There was one time trial stage and a single rest day. Eddy Merckx of the Faemino team won the overall general classification, his second victory. Italians Felice Gimondi (Salvarani) placed second, 3 min and 14 s slower than Merckx, and Martin Van Den Bossche (Molteni) was third, nearly five minutes behind Merckx.
