Ghaytun ( ar, غيطون, Ghayţūn) is a village in northern Aleppo Governorate, northwestern Syria. About north of the city of Aleppo and some south of Syria's border with Turkey, it is administratively part of Nahiya Akhtarin of Azaz District. Nahiya Akhtarin
Akhtarin Subdistrict ( ar, ناحية أخترين, Nāḥiyah Akhtarin) is the easternmost subdistrict of Azaz District in the northern Aleppo Governorate of northern Syria, on the border with Turkey. Its administrative centre and largest town is Akhtarin. Its town of Dabiq is notable for the battle of Marj Dabiq in 1516, and its place in Islamic eschatology. Neighbouring subdistricts are Sawran Subdistrict (northwest) and Mare' Subdistrict (southwest), both in Azaz District, as well as al-Rai Subdistrict (northeast) and al-Bab Subdistrict (southeast), both belonging to al-Bab District. To the north is the Kilis Province of Turkey. At the 2004 census, the subdistrict had a population of 39,385. Mare'
Mare' ( ar, مارع ''Māriʿ'', locally pronounced ''Mēreʿ''), also spelled Marea, is a town in northern Aleppo Governorate, northwestern Syria. It is the largest town and administrative centre of the Mare' nahiyah in the Azaz District. Located some 25 kilometers north of the city of Aleppo, the town has a population of 16,904 as per the 2004 census. Nearby localities include Shaykh Issa and Tell Rifaat to the west, A'zaz to the northwest, Dabiq to the northeast, al-Bab to the southeast, and Maarat Umm Hawsh and Herbel to the south. Syrian Civil War Mare' was affected by the ongoing Syrian uprising against the government of Bashar al-Assad.
