Ghapoha Readers
Great Mariners (previously known as ''Ghapoha'' or ''Ghapoha Readers'') is a Ghanaian professional football club based in Tema. They are a currently competing in the Ghana Football Leagues. In 1997, the team won the Ghanaian FA Cup. History It was founded in the port city of Tema with the name GHAPOHA, which would later be changed to GHAPOHA Readers. The club's name was an abbreviation of Ghana Port and Harbor Authority (GHAPOHA). Their first major achievement was winning the Ghanaian FA Cup in the 1996/97 season after beating Okwahu United 1–0 in the final with a goal from Isaac Boakye. Internationally they won the WAFU Club Championship in 1997 and in the African Football Confederation tournaments they participated in the defunct African Cup Winners' Cup in 1998, in which they were eliminated in the second round by USM Alger of Algeria. 1998 African Cup Winners' Cup
The 1998 African Cup Winners' Cup was the twenty-fourth season of Africa's second oldest club football tournament organised by CAF. As before, the tournament was open to clubs that won their nation's premier domestic cup. Espérance of Tunisia won the cup after defeating Angola's Primeiro de Agosto 4-2 in a two-legged final. WAFU Club Championship
The West African Club Championship (UFOA Cup), also known as the General Eyadéma Cup, was a West African Club tournament from 1977 to 1999. It was open to league runners-up in the West Africa (or ''Zone 3'') region of the CAF. While the first matches were played of the 2000 tournament, the competition was cancelled before the final, largely for financial reasons. While the intention of the CAF was to revive a national squad tournament in its place, the planned annual CSSA Nations Cup has not been regularly scheduled since. Isaac Boakye (born 26 November 1981) is a former professional footballer who played as striker for most of his career in Germany, Arminia Bielefeld, VfL Wolfsburg, 1. FSV Mainz 05 and 1. FC Nürnberg.
