Ghana National College
Ghana National College is a senior high school in Cape Coast, Ghana. Overview Ghana National College was founded on 20 July 1948, staffed by dismissed teachers from St Augustine's College and Mfantsipim School.''Hon. Lee Ocran, Member of Parliament for Jomoro'' in an address to the Parliament of Ghana, 26 February 2007. The college was founded by the first Ghanaian President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah using his own funds, for eight students who had been expelled by the British colonial administration from St Augustine's College. The expulsion resulted from a protest march, held in solidarity with Nkrumah, who was then imprisoned. Notable alumni In 2014 the college created a Hall of Fame to honour alumni. Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei (born 1 February 1969) is the UN International Elections Commissioner, a Ghanaian lawyer and former chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana from 2015 until she was dismissed in June 2018 on grounds of financial malfeasance. Her dismissal has been challenged in the Supreme Court of Ghana by two separate writs. Lieutenant General Winston Mensa-Wood is a former Ghanaian military officer and served as the twenty-third Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from June 1990 to March 1992.
