Ghalib (film)
''Ghalib'' is a 1961 Pakistani black and white biographical drama film based on the life of famous Urdu poet, Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib. The film was directed and produced by Atta Ullah Hashmi, and the story was written by Shatir Ghaznavi with dialogue by Agha Shorish Kashmiri. The film stars Sudhir in the titular role of Ghalib while Noor Jehan played his love interest and also sang songs for the film. It also marked her last film as an actor after which she shifted her focus towards singing completely. Shatir Ghaznavi
Shatir Ghaznavi (1905–1971) was a playwright, lyricist and story/screenplay dialogue writer for movies, born in 1905 in Peshawar, North-West Frontier Province, British India. His real name was Amin-ul-haq Khan but he adopted the pen name of Shatir Ghaznavi. His ancestors had moved from Ghazni, Afghanistan to Peshawar, so he used "Ghaznavi" as his pen name to indicate his origins. Playwright He had started writing poetry and literary pursuits from his school days. After completing his education he started his full-fledged literary career by launching a monthly literary magazine from Peshawar called ''Saghir.'' At the same time he started writing radio plays for the then All India Radio Station Peshawar. The well-known literary figure and broadcaster of the time, Sajjad Sarwar Niazi was the director of the Peshawar Radio Station. Saleem Raza (singer)
Noel Dias (4 March 1932 – 25 November 1983), better known as Saleem Raza ( ur, ), was a Pakistani playback singer. He started his singing career from Lahore, Pakistan and quickly gained popularity. Raza was a classically- trained singer and was more famous for singing sad songs. Raza's career suffered due to the rise of singer Ahmed Rushdi in the late 1950s. He left playback singing in 1966 as he lost his popularity with the film composers and moved to Canada where he died in 1983. Career Saleem Raza was born Noel Dias in a Christian family. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, he migrated to Pakistan and settled in Lahore. He first sang for Lahore Radio Station. Raza also made friends with an artist of the time, Mohni Hameed. ''Mirza Ghalib'' is a 1954 Indian Hindi and Urdu language biographical film, directed by Sohrab Modi. Based on the life of well-known poet Mirza Ghalib, the film was acclaimed upon release. It stars Bharat Bhushan as Ghalib and Suraiya as his courtesan lover. The film won the President's Gold Medal for the All India Best Feature Film and the President's Silver Medal for Best Feature Film in Hindi in the 2nd National Film Awards for 1954. Zubaida Khanum (1935 – 19 October 2013) was a Pakistani playback singer who recorded over 250 songs during Golden Age of Pakistani film music of 1950s and 1960s. Agha Shorish Kashmiri (1917–1975; ) was a Pakistani scholar, writer, debater, and a leader of the Majlis-e-Ahrar-e-Islam party. He was a figure of the freedom movement in the British Raj, as well as the chief editor of the weekly ''Chattan'' magazine in Pakistan. Early life and career Kashmiri started his political career in 1935 when he delivered a historical speech at the Shaheed Ganj Mosque conference when Maulana Zafar Ali Khan was serving as the President of Ahrar Party, India. He was a student of Maulana Zafar Ali Khan but was disappointed by the violence at the Shaheed Ganj Mosque in 1935.
