Gezienus Ten Doesschate
Gezienus (or Gesinus) ten Doesschate (11 August 1885, Zwolle – 9 March 1965, Utrecht) was a Dutch ophthalmologist, amateur painter and historian. He was active as an amateur painter in Utrecht under the pseudonym Thomas Denier. He had good contacts with the cultural elite of Utrecht around the First World War and was good friends with the painters Janus de Winter and . Zwolle
Zwolle () is a city and municipality in the Northeastern Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of Overijssel and the province's second-largest municipality after Enschede with a population of 130,592 as of 1 December 2021. Zwolle is on the border with Gelderland, which follows the river IJssel, and is located about 50 km north east of Utrecht and 85 km south west of Groningen. Carel Blotkamp
Carel Hendrik Blotkamp (born 1945) is a Dutch artist, art historian, writer and critic. He was a professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam between 1982 and 2007. Apart from his academic career Blotkamp is known for his work in art critique, writing for several newspapers and magazines. He also co-founded several art magazines. Blotkamp is considered an authority on ''De Stijl'' and magic realism, and wrote several books on modern artists. Career Blotkamp was born in Zeist in 1945. Theo van Doesburg (, 30 August 1883 – 7 March 1931) was a Dutch artist, who practiced painting, writing, poetry and architecture. He is best known as the founder and leader of De Stijl. He was married to artist, pianist and choreographer Nelly van Doesburg. Early life Theo van Doesburg was born Christian Emil Marie Küpper on 30 August 1883, in Utrecht, Netherlands, as the son of the photographer and Henrietta Catherina Margadant. After a short period of training in acting and singing, he decided to become a storekeeper. He always regarded his stepfather, Theodorus Doesburg, to be his natural father, so that his first works are signed with Theo Doesburg, to which he later added "van". Jurriaan ten Doesschate (Utrecht, October 31, 1912 – Zeist, November 3, 1977) was a Dutch ophthalmologist and medical scientist, who specialized in physiological optics.N.M.J.
