Geytin
Geytin is an annual Faroese film festival in the Nordic House in Tórshavn where two Geytin film prizes are handed. The festival was established in 2012. The prizes are given to a Faroese film instructor for a short film, which is no longer than 30 minutes. The name of the Geytin-award The main prize is named after Herálvur Geyti, who was better known as ''Geytin''. Geytin travelled around the Faroe Islands in 1960s and 1970s, before cinemas or TV were common in the islands. The two film awards There are two prizes, both are handed at en event in the Nordic House. From 2012 until 2016 they were handed in December, since 2018 they have been handed in February. The main prize, Geytin, is 30 000 DKK and a statuette, depicting the original person Geytin, the statuette is designed by Astrid Andreassen and Dávur Geyti. Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands ( ), or simply the Faroes ( fo, Føroyar ; da, Færøerne ), are a North Atlantic island group and an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. Heiðrikur á Heygum
Heiðrikur á Heygum (born 1983 in Tórshavn), known by the stylised mononym HEIDRIK, is a Faroese artist who is currently based in Denmark as of 2020. His career has spanned multiple genres and mediums throughout his decades-long career. Art In the realm of painting, Heiðrikur works mainly with watercolors, covering subjects such as parenthood, sexuality, social stigma involving guilt, shame and loneliness. Heiðrikur has also created cover art for albums from musicians such as Eivør, ORKA, Páll Finnur Páll , SAKARIS, Guðrið Hansdóttir and BYRTA. Film and music videos Heiðrikur began his career in film in 2006 by directing a music video for his song ''Tár torna'' from his debut album ''An Invisible Gun'' (2006). Sakaris Stórá
Sakaris Stórá (born 28 July 1986 in Skopun) is a Faroese film director and screenwriter. In December 2012 he won the first public Faroese film award, Geytin. Biography Sakaris Stórá was born and grew up in the small village of Skopun on the island Sandoy. As a boy he dreamt of making films, but before he could realize his dreams he went to work for three years in the local fish factory in Skopun. He moved to Norway in 2005 to learn how to make films. He spent a year studying film and video at the ''Agder Folkehøgskole'', located outside Kristiansand. He was then accepted by the Nordland Kunst- og Filmfagskole in Lofoten in the North of Norway, where he studied for two years (2008–2009). His thesis at this school was the short film ''Passasjeren'' ("The Passenger"). He made another short film at the same school with the title ''Ikaros''. Esther á Fjallinum
Esther is the eponymous heroine of the Book of Esther. In the Achaemenid Empire, the Persian king Ahasuerus seeks a new wife after his queen, Vashti, is deposed for disobeying him. Hadassah, a Jewess who goes by the name of Esther, is chosen to fulfill this role due to her beauty. Ahasuerus' grand vizier, Haman, is offended by Esther's cousin and guardian, Mordecai, due to his refusal to prostrate himself before Haman. Consequently, Haman plots to have all the Jewish subjects of Persia killed, and convinces Ahasuerus to permit him to do so. However, Esther foils the plan by revealing Haman's eradication plans to Ahasuerus, who then has Haman executed and grants permission to the Jews to kill their enemies instead, as royal edicts (including the order for eradication issued by Haman) cannot be revoked under Persian law.
