Getzel Kressel
Elyakim Getzel Kressel (; 12 June 1911 – 9 September 1986) was an Israeli bibliographer and writer. Biography Getzel Kressel was born in Zablotov, Galicia (now Zabolotiv, Ukraine) in 1911, and immigrated to the Mandatory Palestine in 1930. He served as editor of ''Davar ''Davar'' ( he, דבר, lit. ''Word'') was a Hebrew-language daily newspaper published in the British Mandate of Palestine and Israel between 1925 and May 1996. It was relaunched in 2016, under the name ''Davar Rishon'' as an online outlet by th ...'' and for the Am Oved publishing house between 1945 and 1951. He was also a founder and director of the Hebrew Writers Association's Genazim Biobibliographical Institute. Kressel's most important publication was ''Leksikon ha-Sifrut ha-Ivrit ba-Dorot ha-Aḥaronim'' ('Lexicon of Hebrew Literature in Recent Times'), published in two volumes in 1965 and 1967. Zabolotiv
Zabolotiv ( ua, Заболотів, pl, Zabłotów, yi, זאַבלאטאוו ''Zablotov'') is an urban-type settlement in Kolomyia Raion of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast in Western Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Zabolotiv urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: . In 2001, the population was 4,129. The Hebrew Writers Association in Israel ( he, אגודת הסופרים העברים במדינת ישראל, previously אגודת הסופרים העבריים בארץ ישראל or אגודת הסופרים העבריים) is a professional association of writers and poets, who write in the Hebrew language in Israel. (There are also associations of writers in Israel who write in other languages, including Arabic.) History The Association was established in Tel Aviv in 1921 by Hayim Nahman Bialik, to enrich the Hebrew cultural arena in the then Mandate Palestine. The first meeting was attended by some 70 writers and Nahum Sokolow was elected honorary president. Am Oved ("A Working People") is an Israeli publishing house. History Am Oved was founded in 1942 by Berl Katznelson, who was its first Editor in Chief. It was created as an organ of the Histadrut, Israel's federation of Labor, with a goal of publishing books that would "meet the spiritual needs of the working public."
