Getachew Reda ( Tigrinya and Amharic: ጌታቸው ረዳ; born June 1974) is an Ethiopian politician who is currently an advisor to the president of the Tigray Region, Debretsion Gebremichael. Getachew is also an executive committee member and the spokesperson for the Tigray People's Liberation Front. Getachew was the Minister of Government Communications Affairs in Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn's federal government of Ethiopia until 2016. Early life and education Getachew completed his undergraduate studies at Addis Ababa University's School of Law. Between 2001 and 2002, he completed a Master of Law at Alabama University, Tuscaloosa, United States. Before taking a government position in 2009, he served as a professor of law at Mekelle University, located in the capital city of Tigray Region. Getachew Abate
Getachew Abate (1895–1952) was an army commander and a member of the nobility of the Ethiopian Empire. Getachew Abate was the son of ''Lique Mekwas'' Abate Ba-Yalew. He had a church education followed by language training at the Menelik School (''Ecole Imperiale Menelik II''). Getachew Abate grew up in the palace of Emperor Menelik II along with Menelik's grandson, ''Lij'' Iyasu. In 1919, ''Dejazmach'' Getachew Abate was sent to Italy to congratulate King Victor Emmanuel on an Allied victory. In 1921, he was part of the force sent to capture the deposed ''Lij'' Iyasu. Getatchew Mekurya
Getatchew Mekurya (Amharic: ጌታቸው መኩሪያ ወልደ ተክሌ; 14 March 1935 – 4 April 2016) was an Ethiopian jazz saxophonist. Early career Mekurya was born on 14 March 1935, in Yifat, Ethiopia. His father was a honey merchant. Young Getatchew played traditionel Ethiopian instruments such as the washint flute, the krar and the masenqo, and later moved on to the saxophone and clarinet. At age 13, he began his professional career in 1949 as a part of the Municipality Band in Addis Ababa. In 1955 he joined the house band at Addis' Haile Selassie I Theatre, and in 1965 joined the famous Police Orchestra. He was also one of the first musicians to record an instrumental version of ''shellela'', a genre of traditional Amhara vocal music sung by warriors before going into battle. Ethiopians are the native inhabitants of Ethiopia, as well as the global diaspora of Ethiopia. Ethiopians constitute several component ethnic groups, many of which are closely related to ethnic groups in neighboring Eritrea and other parts of the Horn of Africa.
