Gertrude Walker
Gertrude Walker (April 8, 1902 - June 18, 1995) was an American screenwriter, TV writer, and novelist known for her work on B movies at Republic Pictures. Biography Gertrude—the only child of Clinton "Razz" Walker and Gertrude White—grew up in Dayton, Ohio, and attended the Longfellow School. She graduated from Ohio State University, where she performed in plays, before deciding to move to Los Angeles. In Hollywood, Gertrude sought work as an actress, showgirl, and entertainment journalist at fan magazines. Her one credited acting role was in 1935's ''Mary Burns, Fugitive''; she also worked as a Ziegfeld Follies girl. Walker ended up on the writing staff at Republic Pictures, where she enjoyed the collegiate atmosphere and working with writer Dane Lussier. As Walker later recounted, she was almost laid off from the studio in 1944—until her boss saw her script for ''Silent Partner (1944 film), Silent Partner'' (which she had written in three days) and was blown away. Charles Winninger
Charles J. Winninger (May 26, 1884 – January 27, 1969) was an American stage and film actor, most often cast in comedies or musicals. Life and career Winninger was born in Athens, Wisconsin, the son of Rosalia (Grassler) and Franz Winninger. His parents were Austrian immigrants. He began as a vaudeville actor. His most famous stage role was as Cap'n Andy Hawks in the original production of ''Show Boat'', the Jerome Kern/Oscar Hammerstein II musical classic, in 1927. He played the role in the 1932 stage revival and the 1936 film version of the show. He became so identified with the role and with his persona as a riverboat captain that he played several variations of the role, notably on the radio program ''Maxwell House Show Boat'', which was clearly inspired by the Broadway musical. ''Front Row Center'' is an American variety show that aired on the DuMont Television Network Sundays at 7pm ET from March 25, 1949, to April 2, 1950. The show was originally 30 minutes then expanded to 60 minutes. This was one of several DuMont network programs to start as a local show on one of its affiliates. The premiere episode featured Marilyn Maxwell in her TV debut. On April 9, 1950, DuMont replaced this show with ''Starlit Time'' in the same time slot.
