André Gertler (26 July 1907 – 23 July 1998) was a Hungarian classical violinist and teacher. Professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (1940–1977), Professor at the Cologne Academy of Music (1954–1957), Professor at the College of Music in Hannover (1964), founder and leader of the Gertler Quartet. Brie Gertler is an American philosopher who works primarily on problems in the philosophy of mind. A mind-body dualist, she is Commonwealth Professor of Philosophy and Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs at the University of Virginia. Her special interests include introspection, consciousness and mental content. Mark Gertler (9 December 1891 – 23 June 1939), born Marks Gertler, was a British painter of figure subjects, portraits and still-life. His early life and his relationship with Dora Carrington were the inspiration for Gilbert Cannan's novel ''Mendel''. The characters of ''Loerke'' in D. H. Lawrence's ''Women in Love'', and ''Gombauld'' in Aldous Huxley's ''Crome Yellow'' were based on him. Mark Lionel Gertler (born March 31, 1951) is an American economist, and Henry and Lucy Moses Professor of Economics at New York University (NYU). A specialist in business cycles and monetary policy, he has been an associate and collaborator of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke for more than 30 years. He is among the 20 most cited economists in the world. Gertler completed his B.A. in May 1973 from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and his Ph.D. in June 1978 from Stanford University.
