Gerritsen Beach is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, located between Sheepshead Bay to the west and Marine Park to the east. The area is served by Brooklyn Community Board 15. Patrick Gerritsen (; born 13 March 1987) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a striker. A prospect of the Twente youth academy, Gerritsen made his breakthrough in the 2005–06 season. He would, however, be affected by several long-term injuries in the following seasons and then spent two seasons on loan with second-tier Eerste Divisie club Go Ahead Eagles, before signing a permanent deal in 2011. Jim Gerritsen is an American farmer and activist from Maine. He is mostly known for his involvements in the politics of Organic Faming as the proponent of the same. Gerritsen is President of the Maine-based national trade organization Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association (OSGATA). Gerritsen Creek is a short watercourse in Brooklyn, New York City, that empties into Jamaica Bay. The creek has been described as one of the "fingers" that formed the original shoreline of Jamaica Bay. The creek lies just beyond the maximum extent of the Wisconsin Glacier. Course The creek currently starts near Avenue U, but its original headwaters lay eight streets farther north, in what is now Midwood. Within that neighborhood, Bay Avenue and Olean Street run diagonally to the rest of the street grid, flanking the former path of the creek. The creek had been truncated to the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and Kings Highway by the early 20th century, flowing southeast through the neighborhood of Marine Park. That part of the creek was buried in a storm sewer in 1920.
