Geronimo's Cadillac (Michael Martin Murphey Song)
"Geronimo's Cadillac" is the debut single by American country folk singer-songwriter Michael Martin Murphey, then billed as Michael Murphey. It was the title cut of his 1972 debut album which was an A&M Records release. Background and impact Murphey was inspired to write "Geronimo's Cadillac" by a photograph showing Geronimo at the wheel of a luxury touring car with a backseat,: this photograph was reproduced as a drawing on the back album cover of ''Geronimo's Cadillac'' and also on the picture sleeve of the single. The July–August 1987 issue of '' American Songwriter'' quotes Murphey as saying: "the two images together Geronimo and a Cadillac just struck me as a song title. Michael Martin Murphey (born March 14, 1945) is an American singer-songwriter best known for writing and performing Western music, country music and popular music. A multiple Grammy nominee, Murphey has six gold albums, including ''Cowboy Songs'', the first album of cowboy music to achieve gold status since ''Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs'' by Marty Robbins in 1959. He has recorded the hit singles "Wildfire", "Carolina in the Pines", "What's Forever For", "A Long Line of Love", "What She Wants", "Don't Count the Rainy Days", and "Maybe This Time". Bill Miller (born January 23, 1955) is a Native American singer/songwriter and artist of Mohican heritage. He is a guitarist, player of the Native American flute and painter. Life Bill Miller was born on the Stockbridge-Munsee reservation, near Shawano in northern Wisconsin. His Mohican name is ''Fush-Ya Heay Aka'' (meaning "bird song"). Christopher Julian Leslie (born 15 December 1956) is a British folk rock musician. He joined Fairport Convention in 1997. Early years Leslie grew up in Banbury, Oxfordshire. His brother John steered him toward The Watersons' ''Frost and Fire'', Dave Swarbrick, and The Corries. In 1969 he began to teach himself fiddle and modelled himself on the fiddle-playing of Dave Swarbrick of Fairport Convention, Peter Knight of Steeleye Span, and Barry Dransfield. Mary McCaslin (December 22, 1946 – October 2, 2022) was an American folk singer who wrote, recorded, and performed contemporary folk music. Early life McCaslin was born in Indianapolis on December 22, 1946, and was raised in Southern California. Career McCaslin got her start in the mid-1960s at the Troubadour club, performing at its Monday Night Hoots, as the club’s open-mic nights were known. She recorded primarily for Philo Records, and traveled and performed with her husband, Arkansas folk singer Jim Ringer. The Lost Gonzo Band was an American country rock band which was founded in 1972 and toured and recorded with some of the most iconic and colorful musicians in Texas including Jerry Jeff Walker Michael Martin Murphey and Ray Wylie Hubbard. They were the musicians on such quintessential albums as Murphey's Geronimo's Cadillac and Cosmic Cowboy Souvenir and Jerry Jeff's Viva Terlingua.
