Gerolamo Tessari
Girolamo Tessari ( c. 1480 – c. 1561), also called Gerolamo Tessari or Girolamo dal Santo, was an Italian painter, active in a Renaissance style in his native city of Padua. Biography He painted a canvas depicting the ''Deposition'' found at the Museo Civico of Padua. Abbey Of Praglia
Praglia Abbey ( it, Abbazia di Praglia) is a Benedictine monastery in the frazione of Bresseo in Teolo, Province of Padua, Italy. It is located at the foot of the Euganean Hills, some 12 kilometers southwest of Padua, and four kilometers from Abano Terme. History The monastery was founded in 1080. The first abbot of Praglia, Iselberto dei Tadi, who had become a monk in the monastery of San Benedetto Polirone in Mantua, is mentioned in a Papal Bull of Calixtus II in 1123. Until 1304 Praglia was under the direction of more powerful abbeys such as that of Polirone, the Abbey of Santa Giustina in Padua, and Cluny. By the 14th century the abbey had gained more autonomy, funded by donations of various rulers and families. Most of the cloisters and church were rebuilt in the 16th century. The Abbey of Santa Giustina is a 10th-century Benedictine abbey complex located in front of the Prato della Valle in central Padua, region of Veneto, Italy. Adjacent to the former monastery is the basilica church of Santa Giustina, initially built in the 6th century, but whose present form derives from a 17th-century reconstruction. History A church dedicated to the St Justina of Padua and of other 4th century Christian martyrs of Padua, was present at the site by the 520s, erected under the patronage of the Prefect Opilius and housing the relics of the saint. The church was already described as lavish in decoration in the 565 biography of ''Life of St Martin'', written by Venantius Fortunatus. By the 10th century, pilgrims who came to the basilica to venerate the saints' relics, were ministered by monks. In 971, Bishop of Padua placed the community under the Rule of St. Benedict. The Basilica del Carmine is a 16th-century Roman Catholic church located on piazza Francesco Petrarca in Padua, region of Veneto, Italy. It was made a minor basilica in 1960 by pope John XXIII History The church and an attached monastery were founded by an order of Carmelite monks, hence the name. The order became established in Padua by the late 13th-century, and we have the first documentation of a church at the site by 1212. Santa Maria in Vanzo is a Renaissance-style, Roman Catholic church in Padua, region of Veneto, Italy. History The church was first rebuilt in 1436 by Domenico Campolongo, a local aristocrat; the church was enlarged in 1525. An inventory in 1869 noted that the first altar on the left had a canvas depicting ''Enthroned Virgin and St Jerome among other Saints'' by Lambert Sustris. The fourth altar on the left had an ''Adoration by the Shepherds'' attributed by Pietro Selvatico to Francesco Bassano the Younger.
