Germán Villa
Germán Villa Castañeda (; born 2 April 1973) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. German made his debut in the 1991-92 season with América against Leon. Villa played regularly with América until 1998 when he decided to go to the Spanish league to play for Espanyol de Barcelona. Villa returned to Mexico for the Verano 1999 season to play with América. He then transferred to Necaxa where he played one tournament. Villa returned to América for the Verano 2000 season. Villa has won two championships, the first in Verano 2002 season and the second in Clausura 2005. He was a vital part of the Mexico national team that played in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and also the 2002 FIFA World Cup tournament. In November 2009, German Villa signed a contract with Querétaro to play at least one year. 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup
The 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the third edition of the Gold Cup, the soccer championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). The tournament returned to the United States and California; the games were hosted by Los Angeles, San Diego, and Anaheim. The format of the tournament changed from 1993: it was expanded to nine teams, separated into three groups of three and played in January as opposed to the 1993 edition which was played in July. The top team in each group, plus the best second-place finisher would advance to the semifinals. For the first time, a non-CONCACAF team was invited: Brazil, who sent their under-23 side. Mexico won their second straight Gold Cup, beating the Brazilians 2–0 in the final. CONCACAF Giants Cup
The CONCACAF Giants Cup was an international association football club competition held in 2001 to replace CONCACAF Cup Winners Cup. The cup was for CONCACAF teams with the highest attendance in their national league, and was won by Mexico's Club América. The winner and runner up was supposed to qualify for the CONCACAF Clubs Cup, a tournament of eight teams from the CONCACAF Champions Cup and Giants Cup that would compete each January for the FIFA Club World Championship. In October 2001, the Clubs Cup became the CONCACAF Champions' Cup 2002 and Club América and D.C. United were added to the competition. 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup
The 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup was the 41st edition of the annual international club football competition held in the CONCACAF region (North America, Central America and the Caribbean), the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. The tournament is also a qualifying event for the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup. Thirty-three teams from eighteen football associations took part, starting with the first qualifying games on July 26, 2005. The tournament ended with a two-legged final between Mexican teams América and Toluca. The first leg was played at Estadio Nemesio Díez in Toluca, Mexico on April 12, 2006 and ended in a 0–0 draw. The 1992 CONCACAF Champions' Cup, also known as the American Airlines Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 28th edition of the annual international club football competition held in the CONCACAF region (North America, Central America and the Caribbean), the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. It determined that year's club champion of football in the CONCACAF region and was played from 1 February 1992 till 5 January 1993. The teams were split in 2 zones (North/Central and Caribbean), each one qualifying two teams to the final tournament. The CONCACAF Champions League, known officially as the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League for sponsorship reasons, is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONCACAF. The tournament is contested by clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. The winner of the CONCACAF Champions League automatically qualifies for the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.
