German Whisky
German whisky is a distilled beverage produced in Germany made from grains traditionally associated with the production of whisky. The distillation of German-made whisky is a relatively recent phenomenon having only started in the last 30 years. The styles produced resemble those made in Ireland, Scotland and the United States: single malts, blends, and bourbon styles. There is no standard spelling of German whiskies with distilleries using both "whisky" and "whiskey" and one even using "Whesskey", a play on the word whisky and Hessen, the state in which it is produced. The Schlitzer Korn & Edelobstbrennerei GmbH is a liquor manufacturer in Schlitz, a small town in the Vogelsbergkreis in eastern Hesse, Germany. The distillery was founded in 1585, and is thus regarded as the oldest still-producing distillery in Germany. The production site was an outbuilding of the Schlitzer brewery until the 20th century, when it was finally moved into its present location. Wheat Whiskey
Wheat whiskey is a style of whiskey defined by having a grain bill which consists primarily of wheat. The United States government only allows a product to be labeled "wheat whiskey" when the mash is composed of at least 51% wheat. Like other American styles, a wheat whiskey may be labelled as a "straight" if it is aged for at least two years in new, charred oak barrels. As of 2022, only a handful of straight wheat whiskey are mass marketed, including Bernheim Original, Middle West, Old Elk, and Dry Fly.
