Germaine Bazzle
Germaine Bazzle (born March 28, 1932) is a jazz vocalist from New Orleans. Background Bazzle was born in New Orleans in 1932 and is from the Seventh Ward, New Orleans, Seventh Ward. She grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano by ear at a young age. Her formal musical education began at the age of twelve at the Xavier Junior School of Music. Her musical influences include Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billy Eckstine, Billy Eckstein. Career After graduating from the Xavier University of Louisiana Bazzle worked as a teacher, including as choir and music appreciation at Xavier Prep. She retired from teaching in 2008. Since graduating from university Bazzle has been a performing musician. Wynton Marsalis
Wynton Learson Marsalis (born October 18, 1961) is an American trumpeter, composer, teacher, and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has promoted classical and jazz music, often to young audiences. Marsalis has won nine Grammy Awards, and his ''Blood on the Fields'' was the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He is the only musician to win a Grammy Award in both jazz and classical during the same year. Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Leah Chase
Leyah (Leah) Chase (née Lange; January 6, 1923 – June 1, 2019) was an American chef based in New Orleans, Louisiana. An author and television personality, she was known as the Queen of Creole Cuisine, advocating both African-American art and Creole cooking. Her restaurant, Dooky Chase, was known as a gathering place during the 1960s among many who participated in the Civil Rights Movement, and was known as a gallery due to its extensive African-American art collection. In 2018 it was named one of the 40 most important restaurants of the past 40 years by ''Food & Wine''. Chase was the recipient of a multitude of awards and honors.
