Geri Lynch Tomich (born 15 July 1964, Manhattan, New York) is an American synchronized figure skating coach and former figure skater. Education She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College, City University of New York. Professional career Coach Geri Lynch Tomich, once member of the Disney on Ice show, was invited by the Essex Skating Club in 2001 to start and lead its synchronized skating organization. Geri Lynch Tomich is the founder and the head coach of the Synchroettes synchronized skating teams, a not for profit organization that spans 10 teams and includes about 200 figure skaters. Synchroettes is one of the biggest such organizations in the United States and no longer represents the Essex Skating Club of New Jersey. The first practice of the newly formed Synchroettes was scheduled on September 11, 2001, the day when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York City, killing nearly 3,000 people. Toys For Tots
Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The program was founded in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity located in Triangle, Virginia, serves to fund, raise funds for, and support the program. History Toys for Tots began as a Los Angeles charitable effort in 1947. Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, was inspired by his wife Diane when she tried to donate a homemade Raggedy Ann doll to a needy child but could not find any organization to do so. At her suggestion, he gathered a group of local Marine reservists, including Lieutenant Colonel John Hampton, who coordinated and collected some 5,000 toys for local children that year from collection bins placed outside Warner Bros. movie theaters. Professional Skaters Association
The Professional Skaters Association International is the largest figure skating coaches association in the world. The PSA was founded on August 10, 1938, in Lake Placid, New York, as the American Skaters Guild, just two years (1936) after the Ice Teachers Guild was formed in England by Jacques Gerschwiler, Howard Nicholson, Gladys Hogg and Eric Van De Weyden. On January 21, 1950, at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the American Skaters Guild was reorganized and renamed the Professional Skaters Guild of America. In May 1995, the PSGA once again changed its identity to the Professional Skaters Association, International (PSA). The Ice Skating Institute (formerly the Ice Skating Institute of America) is a trade association for ice rinks, and also an international governing body for recreational figure skating. It was founded in 1959 to proliferate the building of permanent indoor ice rinks, which numbered fewer than 100 at the time, as well as to promote skating as a recreational activity. The South Mountain Recreation Complex is a 36-acre recreation facility in Essex County, located within the boundaries of the South Mountain Reservation in West Orange, New Jersey, United States.
