Gerhard Bronner
Gerhard Bronner (23 October 1922 in Favoriten, Vienna – 19 January 2007 in Vienna) was an Austrian composer, writer, musician and a cabaret artist, known for his contribution to Austrian culture in the post-World War II period. Life Born to a Jewish family, his parents and elder brothers were detained in Dachau concentration camp after Germany had invaded Austria. Bronner fled from occupied Austria to Czechoslovakia and later to Palestine, where he started his musical career. In 1948 he returned to Vienna and originally had planned to stay only for a few weeks and then to move on to London. But he chose Vienna as his permanent residence after having been offered a chance to work there. Bronner took over a dubious night-club called "Marietta-Bar" which he transformed into a small theater. Jewish peoplehood (Hebrew: עמיות יהודית, ''Amiut Yehudit'') is the conception of the awareness of the underlying unity that makes an individual a part of the Jewish people. The concept of peoplehood has a double meaning. The first is descriptive, as a concept factually describing the existence of the Jews as a people - i.e a national ethnoreligious indigenous group, similar to the Tibetans, the Hindus, the Mayans etc. The second is normative, as a value that describes the feeling of belonging and commitment to the Jewish people. The concept of Jewish peoplehood is a paradigm shift for some in Jewish life. Insisting that the mainstream of Jewish life is focused on Jewish nationalism (Zionism), they argue that Jewish life should instead focus on Jewish peoplehood, however the majority of Jews see peoplehood as encompassing both Jews living inside Israel and outside in diaspora. Fritz Muliar, born as Friedrich Ludwig Stand (December 12, 1919 – May 4, 2009), was an Austrian actor who, due to his huge popularity, is often referred to by his countrymen as ''Volksschauspieler''. Biography Born in Neubau, Vienna as the stepson of a jeweller, Muliar became a cabaret artist in the late 1930s. He was a Boy Scout in his youth. After serving in the Second World War, he was imprisoned by the Nazis in 1942 and spent seven months in solitary confinement for ''Betätigung zur Wiederherstellung eines freien Österreich'' (activities to restore Austrian independence—see Anschluss). After the war, Muliar started his career as a stage actor. Of small build, he once said that his ambitions had never included playing parts such as that of Othello. Lore Krainer (4 November 1930 – 3 July 2020) was an Austrian actress, restaurateur, and cabaret singer-songwriter. Personal life Krainer was born at Graz, Styria, and ran a restaurant, known as '' Girardi-Keller'' in Graz, where she performed with her own lyrics and songs. In 1972, she was engaged by Gerhard Bronner in his Cabaret Fledermaus. From 30 October 1978 to 28 June 2009, Krainer could be heard every Sunday morning in the radio cabaret '' Der Guglhupf'' founded by Bronner and Peter Wehle on Ö1 Listen. It was last broadcast on 28 June 2009. For several years, she appeared on the ORF television program '' Seniorenclub''. In 1984, as the first non-Viennese, she was awarded the Nestroy-Ring. In her free time she liked to play tarot, namely the variant Königrufen, and was known as "the doyenne of the Austrian tarot". She scored some tournament victories in this game. Axel Eugen Alexander von Oesterreich (22 June 1910 – 6 September 1988), better known as Axel von Ambesser, was a German playwright, actor and film director. Ambesser's father was Alexander Constantin von Oesterreich. Ambesser was born in Hamburg and attended Wilhelm-Gymnasium.
