Gerhard Andrey (born 21 January 1976) is a Swiss entrepreneur and politician who currently serves as a member of the National Council (Switzerland), Swiss National Council for the canton of Fribourg. A member of the Green Party of Switzerland Andrey was the Green Party's candidate for Federal Council in the 2023 Swiss Federal Council election, 2023 Federal Council election to unseat incumbent The Liberals (Switzerland), FDP federal councillors, which did not succeed. Early life and education Andrey was born on 21 January 1976 in Fribourg, Fribourg, Switzerland to Annelies and Peter Andrey. His father was a farmer and Municipal council, community councillor of the Christian Democratic People's Party in Heitenried in Fribourg. From 1991 to 1995 Gerhard Andrey learnt to be a Carpentry, carpenter in St. Antoni. The National Council (german: Nationalrat; french: Conseil national; it, Consiglio nazionale; rm, Cussegl naziunal) is the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, the upper house being the Council of States. With 200 seats, the National Council is the larger of the two houses. Adult citizens elect the council's members, who are called National Councillors, for four year terms. These members are apportioned to the Swiss cantons in proportion to their population. Both houses meet in the Federal Palace of Switzerland in Bern. When the Swiss federation was founded in 1848, the number of seats was not yet fixed, and was thus determined by the population of the individual cantons.
