Gerardus Kamper
Gerardus "Gerard" Kamper (born 9 August 1950) is a retired Dutch cyclist. He was part of the Dutch team that shared fifth place in the 4 km team pursuit at the 1972 Summer Olympics. He finished 84th in the 1975 Tour de France. His son Kris also became professional cyclist. Koedijk
Koedijk is a village in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It is now a part of Alkmaar and of Dijk en Waard, but before 1972 those two parts were a separate municipality first mentioned in the 14th century. Koedijk is most famous for its annual Gondelvaart (gondola parade). This gondelvaart is held every year on the 3rd Saturday in August. The name ''Koedijk'' means ''cow dyke''. The Coedijc was the dike that protected the village of Vronen from the waters of the Rekere (or Recker), a tidal stream that ran about where the Noordhollandsch Kanaal is now located. The village of Vronen was completely abandoned in 1297. The population was displaced when the village was destroyed after the battle between West Friesland (region), West Friesland and Holland, and relocated to the Coedijc. Team Pursuit
The team pursuit is a track cycling event similar to the individual pursuit, except that two teams, each of up to four riders, compete, starting on opposite sides of the velodrome. Race format Both men's and women's events are competed over a distance of 4 km, by a team of 4 riders. Prior to the start of the 2012–13 season the women's event was competed over a distance of 3 km, by a team of 3 riders. As with the individual pursuit, the objective is to cover the distance in the fastest time or to catch and overtake the other team in a final. Riders in a team follow each other closely in line, drafting to minimize total drag, and periodically the lead rider (who works the hardest) peels off the front, swings up the track banking and rejoins the team at the rear. The 1972 Summer Olympics (), officially known as the Games of the XX Olympiad () and commonly known as Munich 1972 (german: München 1972), was an international multi-sport event held in Munich, West Germany, from 26 August to 11 September 1972. The event was overshadowed by the Munich massacre in the second week, in which eleven Israeli athletes and coaches and a West German police officer at Olympic village were killed by Palestinian Black September members. The motivation for the attack was the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Tour De France
The Tour de France () is an annual men's multiple-stage bicycle race primarily held in France, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries.
