* Gerard Plessers (born 30 March 1959) is a retired Belgian footballer. During his career he played for R. Standard de Liège, Hamburger SV, KV Kortrijk, KRC Genk and KVV Overpelt Fabriek. He earned 13 caps for the Belgium national football team, and participated in the UEFA Euro 1980 and the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Overpelt
Overpelt (, literally ''Upper Pelt'') is a town in the municipality of Pelt and a former municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. In 2018, the municipality of Overpelt had a total population of 15,478. The municipality consisted of the following population centres: centre, Holheide, Overpelt-Fabriek, and Lindelhoeven. Three hospitals are in Overpelt. In 2005, the St. Mary hospital opened as a merger of hospitals in Lommel and Neerpelt. In addition there is the MS-clinic and a center for disabled, Sainte-Ode. Effective 1 January 2019, Neerpelt and Overpelt were merged into the new municipality of Pelt. The Belgian Cup is a knockout competition for football clubs in Belgian football, organized by the Royal Belgian Football Association. It was first unofficially organized in 1908 as a tournament between teams representing the various Provinces of Belgium, with players from the various clubs reallocated into teams based on their province of origin, with the team representing West Flanders defeating the Antwerp team in the first edition final. The first club edition of the Belgian Cup occurred during the 1911–12 season. The tournament is currently open to all clubs registered in the Belgian football league system, although clubs outside the top 5 levels, playing in the regional Belgian Provincial Leagues can only qualify through regional cup tournaments. Belgian National Sports Merit Award
The Belgian National Sports Merit Award is an annual award handed out to a Belgian sportsperson or -team for exceptional merit. Players can only win the award once during their career, making this trophy one of the most prestigious in Belgian sports. The trophy is awarded by a jury consisting of (former) sports champions (e.g. Paul Van Himst and Ingrid Berghmans), influential sports people and sports journalists and is led by the mayor of Brussels. The trophy was established in 1928 by Alban Collignon, as a tribute to the founder of the Royal Belgian Aero-club, Fernand Jacobs. The UEFA Euro 1980 Final was the final match of UEFA Euro 1980, the sixth UEFA European Football Championship, UEFA's top football competition for national teams. The match was played at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy, on 22 June 1980 and was contested by Belgium and West Germany. The UEFA Intertoto Cup (from la, Inter, 'between' + german: toto, ' betting pool'),Most precisely, from ( football pool); cf. often abbreviated and more known in the German-speaking world as UI Cup and originally called the International Football Cup, was a summer football competition. The competition was discontinued after the 2008 tournament. Teams who originally would have entered the Intertoto Cup now directly enter the qualifying stages of the UEFA Europa League from this point.
