Gerald Wingrove
Gerald Amery Wingrove is a model engineer and author from the United Kingdom. He is best known as a modeller of cars. Career Wingrove left his job as a lathe operator to create models full-time in November 1967, and launched himself as a freelance model engineer, since which time he has hand crafted in metal almost 280 automobile miniatures in the scales of 1/20 & 1/15th, primarily in 1/15th scale. Most of these were commissioned by the vehicles' owners. The first sale of his work by a major London Auction House was by Christie's on 2 August 1967 with the sale of 2 models of sailing ships in 96th scale and a SE5A aircraft model (1/20th scale) in brass and silk. Further sales of his work were with Brooks (later amalgamated with Bonhams) of London, 21 Lots, in (Sale 112) on 4 December 1999 – and Bonhams (Sale 1793) with 74 Lots on 1 December 2003, in London. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Model Engineering
Model engineering is the pursuit of constructing proportionally-scaled miniature working representations of full-sized machines. It is a branch of metalworking with a strong emphasis on artisanry, as opposed to mass production. While now mainly a hobby, in the past it also had commercial and industrial purpose. The term 'model engineering' was in use by 1888. In the United States, the term 'home shop machinist' is often used instead, although arguably the scope of this term is broader. Model Engineer
''Model Engineer Magazine'' was first published (in the United Kingdom) to support the hobby of model engineering in 1898 by Percival Marshall, who was to remain its editor for over 50 years. It has been owned by MyTime Media since 2008. The magazine addressed the emergence of a new hobby — the construction of models (often working) and experimental engineering, largely in metal. It transcended class barriers, appealing to professional engineers, jobbing machinists and anyone interested in making working mechanisms. Bucklers Hard
Buckler's Hard is a hamlet on the banks of the Beaulieu River in the English county of Hampshire. With its Georgian cottages running down to the river, Buckler's Hard is part of the Beaulieu Estate. The hamlet is some south of the village of Beaulieu. History Buckler's Hard, originally called Montagu Town, was built by the second Duke of Montagu, and was intended to be a free port for trade with the West Indies.
